A stimulus can e outlines as actions or operations in any environment that hinder a person’s behavior. An excellent example in daily context is when a person is frequently talkative during work hours; however, when the manager is present, they tend to talk less during work gatherings. In this scenario, the manager acts as a stimulus that alters one’s character. Another example is that of a supervision or consultation scenario whereby when an examiner is present during a classroom observation, the teacher acts more enthusiastic in their tone of voice and associates with the learners more than expected. The presence of the superior is considered a stimulus and presents the availability of penalty in poor performance. This is significant as people or living things consequently react to actions in their surroundings.
On the other hand, stimulus class is a collection of similar stimuli along with one of several aspects; for instance, they look or sound the same, they have one effect on behavior, or they happen at similar times relative to the response. An example in everyday operations engages a person picking up their phone when it rings, even if the kid altered the ringtone into some strange song. The ringtone from the phone is a cluster of stimuli that all have a similar effect on a person’s behavior. Another example is in the supervision or consultation aspect, where one teaches a staff member to provide assistance for a customer when the customer signs for help, says “help,” or exchanges a picture symbol for use. The individual will create a stimulus class for the staff person. The various stimuli produce a popular behavioral outcome, which is to assist. It is significant for people to engage in behavior under the control of several associated impulses in their daily lives.
