The Perception of Derived Stimulus Relations on the Development of Language and Cognition

  1. The lack of focused derived stimulus relations through the early phases of development for a youngster is likely to lack its impact language as from that time. In the study (Belisle & Sickman, 2020), it has been proven that the derived Stimulus relations are the core concept to explain the behavior of the human language and cognition. In consideration, the stimulus equivalence has been related to the Derived stimulus, which is a basic teaching skill for children. Through the model, it helps understand the development of language and cognition. Because humans can respond to various stimuli considering the relation to another stimulus, derived stimulus can be used to explain language development based on response giving when asked to perform and answer certain questions.
  2. Through derived stimulus relations and verbal behavior, an individual gets to develop a more clear communication that goes along with language development and human beings’ cognition. Considering the human language functional approach, instructional control and program insensitivity are the first methods to developing human language. However, verbal behavior affects the reinforce the human language development, as it leads to less insensitivity, which affects human behavior as to Derived stimulus that increases the insensitivity in response (Barnes-Holmes & Barnes-Holmes, 2018).
  • According to Sidman’s conceptualization, stimulus equivalence is based on Reflexivity, symmetry, and transitivity (Li & Poling, 2020). Under the first part, reflexivity needs the subject to relate to the other conditionally with the stimulus. A more general identity is used for the evidence of the relation. In the second part, symmetry needs to have a more reversible relation between the stimuli. In this, the trainer reverses the stimulus’s roles during the comparing and discrimination of the effects. In the last part, transitivity needs the connection between the two stimuli in a case where if b then c combines, there is a more relation that will emerge of another stimulus. In this case, many of the tests are done combining the transitivity and symmetry, a more of a reversed sample, and a sample that offers a comparison to inquire transitivity is done.
