Humaneness and Sensitivity of Gregor’s Family

After metamorphosis, Gregor does not lose his humaneness due to the physical transformation. Gregor changes very little even though he metamorphosed into an insect. Gregor has been quick to accept that he is a burden to the family and attempts to adjust his novel condition as much as he can. Gregor is more sensitive and human than his family despite the fact he became an insect.

The physical transformation of Gregory made his family struggle with sympathy and feelings of revolution towards him. The father attacks him a couple of times, showing the least sympathy and fails to take care of him. Gregor’s mother is horrified and faints by his appearance. The family members are insensitive and inhumane towards Gregor and are uncomfortable with his presence. Grete, who takes care of Gregory, slowly changes his personality towards Gregor after his physical transformation. Grete loses her sensitivity and begins to feel uncomfortable when Gregor is present. She losses her humaneness and tender nature to care for Gregor and feels the need to get rid of Gregory. There is a complete collapse of sympathy and mercy from the family since the people who should take care of him, protect him, and love him unconditionally regarding the code of family connections are the same people who abuse him most.

On the other hand, Gregor is still humane and sensitive despite his physical transformation. For instance, Gregor took the role of money earner in the family after his father’s business failure until the day of his metamorphosis. Gregor decides to disappear since it is in his family’s best interest and accepts his fate without objection. Gregor’s family shows no empathy and compassion for his physical condition, which leads to emotional feelings of guilt. Gregor’s essential being has not changed in any basic way since he still needs and wishes to connect with his family and still wishes to be responsible for the family. He is the cause of his death since he does not want to cause stress and discomfort in the family.
