Disseminating Strategies in EBP

Dissemination involves effectively sharing and relaying information, data, and intervention strategies to audiences that are both clinically oriented and not. This means that one must incorporate effective dissemination strategies to serve the primary purpose, which is to spread knowledge and inform the audience of evidence-based resources and interventions to address clinical issues (Melnyk, 2018). Disseminating is a process that involves four main components for maximum effectiveness and performance. They include the message being shared, sources, a medium of transmission, which provides for disseminating strategies, and target audiences or users. Therefore, dissemination strategies are approaches developed to share and communicate information and EBP. Two main dissemination strategies I would be inclined to use are poster presentations and paper or publication strategies. Primarily, poster presentations are considered formal, can be used in legal research conferences, are brief, and precise. Two main elements that make poster presentations effective and easier to use include designing a poster and a brief explanation of the information and data presented.

Poster presentations enhance presentation, and communication skills as one can easily communicate EBP perceptively and concisely. Even though many would forego this strategy due to extensive preparation and thought requirements, I find information analyzation, evaluation, and idea synthesis to be a creativity instigator that helps one understand research conducted and the topic easily and deeply. Therefore, when presenting the poster and information, explanation skills are perceived to be attractive and full understanding of the concepts researched (Brownson, 2018). Publications, on the other hand, one can use nursing journals and informal medical articles such as nursing newspapers and magazines published by nursing organizations. It is also easier to use publications as publishing EBP can be user friendly, can be digitally saved, and retrieving is easier. I can write nursing topics with EBP materials and publish them in databases such as Medline and CINAHL, to mention a few. They become a permanent and durable dissemination strategy.

I would find it challenging to use a podium or oral presentation as I communicate best and analytically behind a paper and pen rather than speaking about it. For instance, behind a paper and pen, I can wisely choose the most critical EBP information and data compared to when being allowed to speak about it. Oral presentations may be time limiting, which may result in disseminating lesser information susceptible to criticisms, hence not achieving the primary purpose of the dissemination process (McClung, 2012). Poster presentations and publications are also faced with numerous challenges and disadvantages that act as potential barriers to effective dissemination and performance. For instance, using print publications may be met by such difficulties as audience mismatch, time lags, and one could be encountered with an unwillingness to publish my EBP articles. A barrier in poster presentations would be the much-required input and preparation of posters to match one’s explanation skills. Selecting the most appropriate content, designing the poster attractively, and alignment of presentation and research aspects can be challenging.

Overcoming these barriers requires essential and creative mitigation strategies. For instance, challenges such as audience mismatch, time lags, and one could be encountered with an unwillingness to publish my EBP articles require different approaches to overcome. If a particular organization does not want to publish my EBP articles, I would be required to have many alternatives to try to push my luck. More importantly, I should present many articles to increase the chances of publication acceptance, and ensure information is of high quality. Poster preparation requires having adequate time, researching on the best poster guidelines, and ensuring posters have diverse templates that are attractive and engaging.
