While there is no limit to the length of your post, a strong post is generally 1 paragraph in length (4-5 sentences) that includes some examples (at least 2) to support your claim. You may use material from the course readings and lecture as support, but are also welcome to provide support from other resources.

Question:
Strong social networks and support may promote better health, not only in immigrant communities but for all of us. However, research suggests that over time, different social factors might play a role in eroding the family and social supports that help keep immigrants healthy. What are some of these factors and how might they come to diminish social networks and support systems?

Immigrant’s families

One of the social factors that may affect the level of health among immigrants is the income level. The level of income among the immigrants is attributed to the development of acculturation posed by the established attitudes, values behaviors, and beliefs of the immigrants in question (Allen et al., 2014). Additionally, it provides an understanding of income level for these people since it determines the type of health service to choose from. Immigrants will lower incomes are more likely to live in poverty, which will reflect on the establishment of inadequate health provision and vice versa. For instance, the interrelationship of acculturation in regards to income levels will determine the health behaviors, social support, and ties as well as perception on how to handle different health complications (Allen et al., 2014).

The other social factor that may affect the health of immigrants is the need to access or have access points to the health care system. Further, this describes how easy the immigrants can access health care by having determinants to assist in obtaining necessary services. Some of these determinants can be health insurance that enables an individual to have access to services such as screening as well as preventive care for individuals with chronic conditions (Braveman et at., 2011). The main concern on the access of health also solves the issue of disparity and equity on health that is considered to be an issue of social justice. Notably, the concepts of health disparity, as well as health equity, are rooted in and heath as American social values and also used as international aspects to recognize ethical and human rights principles.  For instance, all people need to be valued equally as a human right since it is to enhance the well-being and ability to participate in the workforce, such as providing access to equal health.

Social Needs of Immigrant Families

Various policies have been initiated within the United States aimed at curbing immigration and improved migration enforcement actions. Amid regulations and political temperature, immigrant families have consistently recorded amplified degrees of anxiety and fear together with problems affecting their health and general well-being such as poverty, discrimination, and low paying careers. Increasing levels of fear and uncertainty is also a social factor that has played a role in eroding these families as they are afraid of attacks and extradition together with being divided from their kids (Artiga, 2019). These fears go beyond to the teenagers who also agonize about getting alienated from their parents plus individuals of different immigration statuses. Poverty and housing challenges are other issues that affect the immigrant’s health as the rising house value in these societies is pushing families into packed livelihood conditions and out of societies. Landlords have consequently given threats to these individuals with the use of migration enforcement to immediate families; thus, putting them exposed to insecure housing conditions.

There are also fears emerging from inadequate access to programs and services, including primary learning institutions fueled by ineffective schools. These factors have continuously made families afraid of enrolling their kids into these learning organizations or seeking assistance for themselves. Still, families have many concerns reading taking part in programs attributed to confusion and uncertainty regarding the changes, including the fear of enhanced danger of deportation (Ayón, 2014). In some regions, including San Francisco and San Diego, there are few schools where these teenagers can access better learning services and other associated programs. However, in these regions, societies have responded to the growing needs of immigrant families through increasing the services plus support.
