Your PowerPoint Presentation will be attached and posted on the Discussion Board.  Students will then read and respond to ALL of the other students’ presentations.

This is NOT a paper. Using a PowerPoint Presentation format (you can use bullets; illustrations; pictorials, links, etc.) to provide:

Please choose (one) stage of development of particular interest to you; Infant (Birth to 2 years); Preschool Child (2 to 5 years); School-age Child (6 to 10 years); Adolescent (10 to 18 years); Emerging and Young Adult (18 to 39 years); Middle-aged Ault (40 to 64 years); Older Adult (65 years and older) and/or the Death and Dying process impacting all age groups. Choose one that you are really interested in examining in-depth. This is a critical thinking piece and is meant to expand your depth of knowledge and critical thinking.

Using a case scenario format (either a ‘real life’ scenario or one made to act as a model/ example) to depict and describe the following as it could be applied to ‘real-life’ human development during the particular stage you have chosen:

  • Please describe the specific characteristics for the stage that you have chosen according to 1) Physical Development; 2) Cognitive Development 3) Personal Development 4) Social Development.
  • What are the theories/ theorists, practices, principles, etc. that help to explain and better understand this stage of development and the essentials that make it important to human growth and development? Theories provide us with theoretical framework, perspective and guidelines. In what ways do you think that they have helped to shape our thinking? Are there points that you agree/disagree with and why?
  • What are the unique tasks, challenges, functions, goals, etc. that must and/or should be achieved/ overcome during this stage in order to be healthier moving through to the next stage?
  • What are some of the obstacles, rites of passage, socio-economic conditions, life events – (such as illness; death; etc.) that might complicate or hinder the process? Please provide examples.
  • Discuss nature verses nurture (or the combination of both) Provide examples, scenario(s). What are the relationships among biological, psychological, cognitive, and social influences?  How do each of these and/or all combined help to provide the mapping of one’s development.
  • Discuss how contextual issues – including age, gender, culture, socioeconomic status and ethnicity help to broaden our understanding of human development and how the multidisciplinary nature of human development contributes to this understanding.
  • Do you feel that the age range for the particular stage of development you are examining is accurate and reflects growth and development at this point in time and history (2019) (Global)? For example, do you feel that the stage of emerging and young adult should be from 18 to 39 years old? One must consider what does an 18-year-old have in common with a 39-year-old? Are there reasons for these groupings? Would you change the age grouping for the stage you are presenting on? If yes, why, if no why not? Please feel free to offer your own theories, thoughts, and explanations
  • Please feel free to add any other information; links; clips; etc. that you feel would help to advance a better learning and understanding experience.

Developmental psychology is an ever-evolving field, as people evolve, change, and develop, we must continue to research, question, investigate, and provide guidelines that reflect the evolving human growth and development process. For the purpose of this presentation, critical thinking and questioning about what you have learned is welcomed.  I hope that you will enjoy this type of assignment.

FINAL STEP TO THIS PROJECT – remember once you have posted your own presentation, you must read and respond to ALL of your classmates’ presentations. This is meant to be a highly interactive learning experience where we act as colleagues in being able to discuss and collaborate on the information we have gathered and our findings. I hope that you will enjoy this learning experience.
