In this assessment, you will propose an economic initiative that presents an opportunity for improved care quality.
Scenario
As an emerging health care leader, the senior management has requested that you independently research and explore one of the economic opportunities that may be available in your care setting. This may be offering a new service line, working to improve a service line already offered, retiring an outdated or unprofitable service line, or any other economic initiative that you believe will be of benefit to your care setting in the short and long term. One example of this is a recently launched partnership with a local bicycle sharing company. Your care setting partners with them to host healthy community events that offer free screenings for early detection of various health issues. This helps fulfill some of your care setting’s preventive and healthy lifestyle initiatives, while also potentially driving referrals to other services provided by your care setting. You have been asked to submit your proposal in the form of a 2–4-page executive summary that includes your proposed economic initiative, supporting economic data, and an analysis of the proposal’s benefits for your department and for the care setting overall.
Directions
You have been asked to ensure that your report addresses the following. Note: The bullet points below correspond to grading criteria in the scoring guide. Be sure your work is, at minimum, addressing each of the bullets below. You may also want to read the scoring guide and the Guiding Questions: Executive Brief: Proposal of New Economic Opportunity document, linked in the Resources, to better understand the performance levels that relate to each grading criterion:
Propose an economic initiative that presents an opportunity for your care setting at both the micro (departmental, neighborhood) and macro (organizational, community) levels that you believe will provide ethical and culturally equitable improvements to the quality of care.
Analyze the supply and demand for your proposed economic initiative within contexts relevant to your care setting.
Explain relevant economic and environmental data that support your proposal and analysis.
Communicate your economic proposal in a logically structured and concise manner, writing content clearly with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Effectively support your proposal with relevant economic data and scholarly sources, correctly formatting citations and references using current APA style.
Example Assessment: You may use the assessment example, linked in the Assessment Example section of the Resources, to give you an idea of what a Proficient or higher rating on the scoring guide would look like.
Additional Requirements
Your assessment should meet the following requirements:
Length: 2–4 double-spaced, typed pages. Your proposal should be succinct yet substantive.
APA format: Resources and citations are formatted according to current APA style.
Resources: Cite 3–5 authoritative and scholarly resources. Be sure to include specific economic data and support as part of your cited resources.
Practices for healthy lifestyles
Answer
Introduction
Saving lives demands an enabling environment. In creating the mentioned sustainable environment for human lives, there is a need to consider enabling economic initiatives that support the health system. The initiatives have to benefit both the public and all health practitioners in working towards the main goal of saving lives. This study is going to explore ways of improving an already established free screen testing initiative established in collaboration with the company with our local bicycle company. Although the partnership has failed to address all the concerns on preventive measures of healthy living, there is hope in its streamlining to meet the required expectations.
Improving the system
There are workable improvements that can be implemented to make the community initiative more effective. To begin with, the organization should include white papers in communicating with the public (NIH n.d). The citizens need a more rational communicative approach that will consistently caution them to apply health guidelines. Therefore, white papers will communicate the ideas, changes, and methods an organization is making towards promoting health prevention measures to the public. The papers also will team up with the screening initiative where they can be supplied to the public before the screening exercise begins. Additionally, to make the screening program more effective, the organization can consider using related audio and video content (NIH,n.d). The broadcasts will act as a reminder to the public’s health consideration process since people tend to pay more attention to the media. Moreover, the provision of information outlining the main reasons for the screening process will help caution the public against bad health practices. To achieve this, health management will forecast the most prevalent health risks that the public can avoid by observing simple health guidelines. Furthermore, the broadcasts will be included every time patients come for screening tests. More illustratively, research has compiled supportive evidence to support screening.
Supportive data
In carrying out screening there are underlying benefits in the prevention of harm. Again the public is also cautioned to follow health regulations in living healthy. For instance, screening has helped to flatten the curve of breast cancer cases. Evidently, in a cohort study by Donella and Guido, the rate of breast cancer infections was standardized after a series of screening tests (Puliti, Zappa & Crocetti, 2012). Also from the 1960s, a decrease was seen in both the incidence of mortality from cervical cancer in Finland where the age-standardized mortality rate decreased more than 80% from 6.6 deaths per 100,000 to 1.2 deaths per 100,000 in the early 1990s (GLOBOCAN, 2018). Furthermore, the decrease in mortality rates was 65% and 55%, respectively in Sweden and Denmark with partial coverage by organized programs (GLOBOCAN, 2018). Again, a reduction in cervical cancer incidence was also observed in the Danish Counties with organized screening compared to those without the organized screening procedures (Hassan & Drechsler,2019). Lastly, the same results were experienced in Norway where improved screening procedures led to a reduction in mortality rates. To this end, there undoubtedly are a lot of benefits that second the carrying out of screening tests. More importantly, if the process is improved then it becomes more beneficial to both parties involved.
Benefits
The improved screening program above will have will help to restructure ways of dealing with predominant ailments. Again the system will help reduce mortality rates together with the number of lives lost to cancer infections each day. Again the organization will minimize costs of partnering with foreign health departments in the treatment of advanced health situations. Moreover, the improved method will help the department be able to spread information on health guidelines in a friendly way to the public. For instance, through the broadcast system that does need a large or list of channels. The organization can use a radio with frequent reminders that observe quality communication skills to pass information to the public who turn up for screen the ng. In turn, the public will sensitize one another to observe turn up for frequent checkups. Again if the white papers are left in the public domain, they can spread the information across with relative ease. In sum, the health care department will be at the forefront of creating a mass awakening in taking action towards health risk prevention measures. In doing so, the organization will easily promote health recommended standards and also create a necessity to observe the proposed regulations.
Conclusion
In brief, the text has explored ways of improving the already existing screen-testing partnership with the bicycle company. Based on the findings, the identified approaches will allow many people to consider healthy standards of living. Therefore, for the organization to realize benefits such as reduced mortality rates and excess costs incurred on foreign alliances, it has to consider adopting the improvements. The adoption will not only benefit the health department but largely create room for the public to reflect on the commonly downtrodden health recommendations. More importantly, both the public and the public should strive to implement healthy living lifestyles.
