Meaning of Life

Life refers to the state of being alive and consciously existing. When defining the meaning of life, we seek to understand the significance, intention, or purpose gained. In my definition of life and its meaning, I mostly use the term’s internal sense and view. In an internal perspective, satisfaction, and happiness gained by an individual acquired from actions justifies the meaning of their lives. Internal life focuses on the cognitive and emotional needs and potentials required to show human potential to care, share, and contribute without relying on transcendent realms or powers (Vaughn, 2018). The spiritual aspect that life purpose is part of God’s plan does not influence my purpose or life meaning. Every day we find people seeking their purpose in life and mission statements, which is a journey to discovering an internal meaning of life. Personally, over the last months, I have been trying to find my purpose and mission statements, in my diary, I have outlined sections such as Health, Career and Profession, Finance, Social Relationships, and Physical stability, which I refer to as my ‘Lifebook.’

With the Lifebook, I can identify the meaning of my life and purpose I wish to achieve in this world through successful progress in the five sections.  Once we find or discover our purpose in life, personally, it is easier to understand the meaning of our lives. I believe achieving career, and professional goals such as being a CEO of a company, acquiring a healthy lifestyle, and writing a social change book is a way of explaining my life meaning. I have designed it independently and do not rely on religious views that it is God’s plan. Enacting societal change and promoting social justice is an aspect I always wanted to achieve in my life. For me, life has meaning if I realize some good that has internal significance to my life and that of others. I believe people design actions and concepts that confer to their preferred way of life to give life meaning rather than relying on or believing its God’s plan (Vaughn, 2018).
