Nagawa, C. S., Emidio, O. M., Lapane, K. L., Houston, T. K., Barton, B. A., Faro, J. M., … & Allison, J. J. (2020). Teamwork for smoking cessation: which smoker was willing to engage their partner? Results from a cross-sectional study. BMC Research Notes, 13(1), 1-8.
The study has examined the factors linked to an individual’s willingness to engage a partner in smoking cessation efforts. The study was carried out through a cross-sectional study design where a tobacco intervention trial was conducted. Visitation to smoking cessation websites before the intervention was positively linked to an individual’s willingness to engage during cessation. The cross-sectional study design was effective in measuring the exposures and outcomes in the study participants simultaneously. This enabled consistent findings on the willingness of the participants to engage a partner in smoking cessation efforts.
Van den Brand, F. A., Nagtzaam, P., Nagelhout, G. E., Winkens, B., & van Schayck, C. P. (2019). The association of peer smoking behavior and social support with quit success in employees who participated in a smoking cessation intervention at the workplace—international journal of environmental research and public health, 16(16), 2831.
The study explored the quit achievement among staffs who have engaged in a smoking cessation mediation within the working environment and how they are linked with social livelihood and the smoking activities of individuals in the surroundings. The study was carried out through a secondary analysis of data from a randomized cluster trial. The intervention and treatment are randomly assigned to a group of individuals, thus minimizing selection and allocation bias. However, the CRT’s precision and power are lower compared to the individually randomized control trial. The logistical nature of working in various clusters has rendered CRT expensive. Other issues that have been made ineffective is the imbalance of study, selection bias, and generalizability.
Maritz, G. S., & Mutemwa, M. (2012). Tobacco smoking: patterns, health consequences for adults, and the long-term health of the offspring. Global journal of health science, 4(4), 62.
The study has examined the patterns of tobacco smoking and the health consequences for adults and the long-term health of offspring. The study’s evidence has been obtained through previous studies that clearly indicate that smoking is linked with varying diseases such as emphysema, asthma, and heart disease, which lead to mortality and morbidity of smokers. Considerably contrast, and comparison of varying studies discussing the controversial topic help prove scientific research and justify the current study. The utilization of previous studies also indicates the relevance and originality of the research issue and describes studies in detail.
