Be sure you respond to all five prompts and complete the reference page in this document before submitting.

Consider how what you have learned throughout the course will impact your future. Explain how to find your purpose by answering the following questions. Include citations and references from the topic study materials.

  1. Summarize the concept of missio Dei (missional purpose).

Your answer in 100-150 words:

Missio Dei refers to the Christian mission which involves organized efforts towards spreading Christianity. Additionally, Christian missionaries are tasked with the duty to spread evangelism as well as facilitate human needs such as education and health care. The purpose of these missionaries is vital to the world because the mission was assigned by Jesus himself to his disciples and by adhering to that call, missionaries acting directly according to God’s will. Through their work, missionaries are able to invite more people to the Kingdom of God and tell people the good news that Jesus died to bring them redemption because his love is very genuine.
  1. Summarize Buechner’s concept of finding your purpose and explain how this aligns with the way you live out your worldview (missional purpose).

Your answer in 100-150 words:

Buechner’s concept suggest that our purpose emanates from the intersection of ‘deep gladness’ and the world’s ‘deep need’. If a Christian’s deep gladness is associated with a concrete idea that is both meaningful and beneficial, then and only then will he or she able to fulfil a deep need in the world and with that find purpose for their lives (Damon 2009). This aligns in my worldview where I understand that having a gift, for instance, an ability for art or music, represents a lifetime calling to serve God’s purpose. A gift in this sense does not stand for privilege but responsibility.
  1. Reflect on your beliefs about origins (creational purpose) and describe how those beliefs contribute to your understanding of human purpose.

Your answer in 100-150 words:

I believe the command by God immediately after creation that our purpose was to subdue the earth and take care of the rest of God’s creation. He had taken seven days to create everything in the world and tasked humankind to protect as well as gain from it. This is an especially important mission today because most of God’s creation is on the blink of extinction because of our activities. We have made the air too polluted, the waters too acidic and the soil infused with chemicals that other plant and animal life is struggling to survive. Human beings need to remember God’s command and act promptly to save God’s creation.
  1. Describe how Jesus’s statement of overarching purpose in the commandment to love God and love others as ourselves can be lived in and out of the workplace.

Your answer in 100-150 words:

Jesus’s statement on love reveal a world where rather than selfish purpose people mind each other interest as well as well-being. This means that in a workplace, an engineer tasked with a duty to dispose waste will not do it in a manner that is cheap and fast only to  cause harm to others living in the same society. This also means that when two people are in a competition for a promotion, none will engage in activities to devalue each other but rather both will work on themselves and be sure that every opportunity represents the will of God. That is what it means to love God and others as we love ourselves.
  1. Describe how your future career can be an opportunity to help others flourish, to be purposeful, and to do no harm.

Your answer in 100-150 words:

I plan to have a career to write and publish literature that contains stories and lessons. Following the example of God, I will create fictional characters in my stories and design lives full of lesson, love, consolation and faith. Through this, my readers will be encouraged to live better and be better. I will also write encouraging messages and stories to people I correspond with; using the wisdom of the Bible, I will offer encouragement, love, peace and help others find their own purpose as I actively engage in mine. With the popularity of social media in the modern world, I will employ tools such as blogs and social sites towards the same goal.
