Project Title: How to Control and help Manage Nutritional Deficits at the Workplace

University Name:

Consultant: AS Consultancy Company

Client: The World Harvest International Company Limited

Date: 23rd February 2020

Abstract

Nutritional research indicates that there is a clear correlation between dietary behaviour and a wide range of chronic diseases, obesity and being overweight. This paper examines such nutritional and dietary pattern behaviours amongst the employees of World Harvest International and develops a proposal towards better standards in the workplace. The proposal follows evidence put forward by health practitioners on the amounts of nutrients required by the body each day. The proposal also attempts to come up with a better strategy with regards to employee benefits for the client company beyond the offers of unlimited snacks to their employees. The absolute proof by conducting and implementing the research that follows this proposal is a conclusion that the workplace is a crucial site for influencing dietary patterns. Proper management of this fact could improve the health of the workforce and help avoid known chronic illnesses, obesity and being overweight.

1.0.Background

The World Harvest International Company Limited is a trading company based in Hong Kong and has been operational for 15 years. The company also runs an e-commerce platform for its products and a good number of physical stores in malls around the urban centres. The company trades snack food from Japan, Korea, Thailand and Hong Kong to a wide range of consumers with an affliction to Asian snacks, particularly, tourists in Hong Kong. Other products that the company trades are frozen fast foods such as chicken wings, pork and beef from other countries within the region. Because of the industry background of snack foods, the company provides good employee benefits for staff that comprises an unlimited supply of soft drinks, juices and coffee, plenty of snack samples after receiving them from supplies which are free for distribution among employees after tasting. These benefits are proving to be disadvantageous where there are cases of employees becoming overweight and later obese from the consumption of sugary foods that exceed the dietary limit. The company, therefore, identifies this as a problem and hires AS Consultancy Group to develop this proposal and determine the best cause of action.

2.0.Research Questions and Objectives

Primary Objective

  • Propose a dietary improvement procedure for the staff at The World Harvest International Company Limited that contains all nutritional requirements.

Secondary Objectives

  1. To propose better employee benefits packages for employees rather than an unlimited supply of snacks.
  2. To propose a management approach towards the handling of the entire situation including attitudes and opinions.

3.0.Research Methods

This research proposal follows a research survey design comprising a collection of information from groups of people through methods like interviews and questionnaires.

3.1.Research Design

This is causal-comparative experimental research or what researcher refer to as quasi-experimental research. The idea is to attempt to establish the cause-effect relationship between employee snack benefits at World Harvest International and dietary complications such as for overweight and obesity.

3.2.Data Collection

Data that is collected is both primary and secondary. Primary data emanates from the employees at the company as well as management and is designed to find the figures as they. For example, a questionnaire will attempt to find out how much sugar foods an employee at one of the retail store consumes daily. Secondary data will be used in an analysis to offer peer-reviewed nutritional assessments of the research.

3.3.Data Analysis

Data analysis applies a systematic statistical and logical technique to illustrate the relationships identified in the data. Charts, tables and figures will be used to interpret the data collected.

4.0.Timescales and Timelines

The timeline illustrates the chronological order of events to be followed in the implementation of this research while at the same time indicating the amount of time required to achieve the objectives of this research.
