Ethical Issues in the Progressive Era

After President McKinley’s assassination in 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt took office and unveiled a set of projects for the nation, a move that would be termed the progressive Era (Rothbard, 2017). This period sought to eliminate the rampant corruption that had taken over the country, prison reforms, civil liberties, women’s exclusivity, social immorality, among other problems. Roosevelt oversaw the progressive era take effect, and he saw to it that every sector had been emended. First, the issues surrounding social ethics like racism were quickly addressed (Rothbard, 2017). He ended school segregation, and one month after he took office, he invited the first black civil rights activist, Booker T. Washington (Rothbard, 2017). His advocacy for the end of segregation might have taken some time to be fully effective, but the fact that he pioneered the conversation was part of a nation in progress.

Secondly, he addressed the ethics surrounding the economy of the country. He instructed the vetting and closure of many monopolies that had controlled the price of goods for long (Rothbard, 2017). These cooperation were also infamous for discriminating against black people, as they hired only white people.

The ethical-political atmosphere was also changed by appointing progressive judges and black judges (Rothbard, 2017). Ending segregation meant that more black people would get quality education and engage in the political discussions of the country.

President Roosevelt’s contribution was in line with the eight key questions by James Madison University (Sanchez et al, 2017). His decisions were fair and done with many consultancies. He made sure that the outcomes of his instructions were met. He fulfilled his responsibilities as president by advocating for the poor and oppressed. He sought liberty and empathy for his people by employing progressive judges while promoting the rights of black people. His authority was firm and per the law.
