Nursing Questions Analysis

The Principle of Bioethics

The healthcare sector heavily relies on the principles of bioethics to deliver quality patient care. These principles are respect for autonomy, nonmaleficence, beneficence, and justice. The principle of autonomy is believed to be the most relevant one in bioethics in the US, where it trumps the relevance of the other tenets. It dates back to ancient Greece, where people based sovereignty and freedom as key factors meant to counter the foreign powers (Matloba, 2018). Thus, it exists as a principle utilized in ancient times and has increasingly found its way into the modern care setting. All the bioethics principles are relevant in the care industry. Given a chance to rank each in line with its importance, I would place the nonmaleficence principle as the first approach. I believe that healthcare professionals have a key duty to protect patients from any harm. The principle of beneficence comes second, followed by autonomy, and finally justice. In line with the Christian biblical narratives, these principles correlate with the need to take care of others. As the Bible says in Galatians 6:10, “So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone.”

Biblical Context and the Reality of Sickness and Diseases

The Christian biblical context supports the handling and management of illnesses. As Thompson (2015) believes, healing, health, and wholeness are based on the Biblical context. Anyone exposed to a disease or associated condition should always turn to the Bible for guidance. In line with the creation, fall, redemption, and restoration contexts, humans learn about relying on God to overcome all the challenges they encounter. God is always there and ready to listen to his people. Thus, when exposed to any form of sickness and disease, human beings need to turn to God and present their challenges to Him. During the fall of humankind in the Bible, God portrayed his love for the world when he redeemed people from suffering. This describes God’s desire to protect and save his people even when they go against his wishes. During the creation and fall, God made humankind in his image, but they turned and disobeyed him. After confessing their sins, God forgave and restored them. Overall, each of these biblical narratives highlights God’s provision for his people. When exposed to diseases and illnesses, God can heal and restore when his people turn to him.
