ANSWER
The Women’s Suffrage Movement
In the United States of America, women have not always been allowed to vote. The Women’s Suffrage Movement was a group of like-minded people fighting for the right to vote in United States constitutional elections. The very first attempt of the movement was in 1848 in Seneca Falls in New York. The movement took more than a century to win that right and for it to be constitutional for women to vote in a United States election in the nineteenth amendment passed on 4th June 1919 and further ratified on 18th August 1920. The movement was involved in lobbies and petitions complimented with parades, demonstrations, pageants and public speaking, sometimes it went to even more aggressive tactics. Beyond fighting for the right to vote, women also fought against gender inequality in terms of property ownership, reproductive rights, job opportunities and equal salaries and wages in comparison to the male gender.
The reason I chose this movement is because of its achievement in the last one hundred years. Today, the United States of America has the very first woman as the Vice President in the highest office in the country. The ideas that begun with the movement has reverberated across time and provided women with an opportunity to fight for their own rights and stand up for themselves. Alongside other groups that have for a long time fought for equal opportunities such as the African Americans, women have inspired change in the society in a culture that today at least a third of the most popular offices occupied by women. Reproductive rights are included in any company’s constitution and unequal pay with regards to gender is considered unlawful and with implication in a court of law. The women suffrage movement began what has been the greatest step for women in the country.
