ANSWER
Ethics in the society
Step Two
There are multiple ethical issues that were addressed during the progressive era that influenced the livelihoods of the citizens of the United States at this era. One of the significant issues was political Corruption, where selfish leaders failed to take care of the wellbeing of the citizens. Other changes that were facing Americans included industrialization, immigration, and urbanization, which were all mainly affected by the country’s politics.
Many leaders, including workers’ associations, activists, journalists, and business owners, became very vocal about these issues and wanted necessary solutions. They also aimed to live a Corruption free life where the regime would improve their livelihoods. To ensure that the leadership and governance abided by the moral guidelines, many progressives intended to fight for an accountable government that would improve US society’s lives. Therefore, the reformers favored policies such as food safety laws, civil service reforms, and enhanced political rights for the women and workers of the United States. The decisions made were to fight against the increasing cases of child labor, industrial evolution, racial inequality, and poor working conditions, which were the norm. Other ethical issues that had to be addressed include political, economic, and social problems, which affected almost the country’s entire population.
Step 3 Application of the ethical perspectives
President Theodore Roosevelt highly expounded on the Importance of Fighting Corruption. He was vocal about why there was a need to undertake significant efforts to do away with Corruption. In his speeches, he ensured to warn corrupt officials and leaders of the repercussions of getting involved in graft. Roosevelt was much against unfairness and injustice in his country, which was prevailing. He was also promised to ensure that he would make sure that everyone had a better livelihood (Stephenson 1). He felt that it was all citizens’ obligation to take part in building the country.
On character, the president talked of the need for people to develop their characters to lead a better life and restoring a better nation together. The president also extensively spoke of the need for having empathy, liberty, resecting the authorities, and obeying human rights (James Madison University 1). He mostly prioritized fairness, where he believed that there was a need for justice and equality for everyone to ensure that a better nation was made. He knew that he would face opposition from those against his ideologies and insisted on keeping up with them and focused on implementing whatever he believed in.
Step 4
In his New Nationalism address, Roosevelt expounds on the need for observing human welfare. He argues that human interest was more important than property rights and that the governance in place, including the citizens’ needs to treat each other fairly and correctly (NCC Staff 1). They also need to ensure a fair justice system where no one was discriminated against despite the many diversities. This relates to me because it expounds on the need to think before acting, where I should ensure that whatever I do is in one with fairness and justice to others. It also relates to me because it has excellent outcomes and considers the need to ensure that all my decisions are ethical and that they benefit everyone around me despite any of their differences.
