Bullying in Schools

Introduction

  1. Did you know that bullying still exists in our school corridors and social media platforms and that such incidences continue to grow?
  2. My name is (insert name), and today, I will tell you why we need to start the conversation about bullying.
  • But first, I will tell you about my interests and why I strongly feel the conversation of bullying is slowly fading as the incidences remain on the rise.

Transition statement:

Body

  1. I have various interests that I indulge in while in school apart from my studies.
    1. The first activity that I enjoy doing is chairing a support group for bullied victims in our school.
      1. I started doing this in my senior year.
      2. Senior year might sound too late for me, but it gave me an opportunity to see what was going on around me, and I finally decided to do something about it.
    2. Another interest I love to do is swimming.
      1. I find a lot of peace in swimming because it helps me release tension and clear my mind from the stories I hear from bullied victims.
      2. Swimming has also acted as an escape for some of the bullied students after I proposed to them to start as a coping mechanism.

Transition statement: this brings me to why I am saying that we need to start having a conversation about bullying.

  1. Through various confessions from students who have been victims of bullying say they occur in the smallest of ways that we tend to assume.
    1. A certain student was bullied an entire semester for having one pair of shoes, keeping in mind that his parents had perished and he had just transferred schools and joined us. Students have been ‘flexing’ in the school corridors over who has the latest Jordan’s and make fun of those who aren’t ‘cool enough.’
      1. Another student was ridiculed after a picture of her boob that she had sent to her boyfriend circulated the whole school with the caption ‘thirsty much’.
      2. The incidences are many, and as I mentioned, we barely seem to notice that our words and actions are making other students suffer. Any action that harms intimidates and coerces another person is considered bullying.
    2. This is why I am urging all of you today to take care of each other and start having a conversation about bullying and acknowledging that we need to regard the feelings of those who surround us.
      1. The first way of having bullying conversations is calling out people who spread false or confidential information without the owner’s authorization.
      2. We also need to realize that bullying is no longer using our fists or slamming someone against the wall. We need to come to the rescue of those who are ridiculed, and in the incident of the student with one pair of sneakers, share with them.

Transition statement:

Conclusion

  1. First, I told you how bullying has been subtle and no longer a conversation, and then I gave two incidences of students getting bullied. Finally, I implored that we take care of one another and be each other’s guide concerning their feelings.
  2. I look forward to the day students will be waking up in the morning and not worry about facing another ‘normal’ day of bullying.
