ANSWER
Navigating Organizational Change
Continuing education in any organization has many benefits. This can be most useful in a healthcare setting. Continuing education is important because it improves and increases the efficiency of the employees. The more people are skilled, the more work is done in less time. For example, a hospital that is experiencing a shortage of doctors can enable some nurses to train and become doctors. The newly trained doctors will make the work in the organization easier, and it will be done efficiently as the doctors will not be overworked (Cervero et al., 2017). Continuing education can also lead to employee retention as most millennials are seeking to develop themselves. Most employees in the US today prefer to work for organizations that will offer them a chance to continue with their education.
Every person may not positively receive the policy of continuing education in the organization. However, continuing education cannot have any negative impact on the organization, as continuing education only works to ensure that every employee meets the organization’s standards. Continuing education also means that every employee will be familiar with new policies and any new technologies that arise in their time during their job. Continuing education policy can only impact organizations positively. The policy will also create an educational culture where people endeavor to attain the highest education possible.
One of the barriers that one is likely to face in applying a continuing education policy in a healthcare system is employee resistance. People who have done their jobs for a long time could be resistant to enrolling in new educational programs (Cervero et al., 2017). Resistance can also arise from people who do not want to step out of their comfort zone. To overcome the resistance, the leaders need to explain to the employees why they need to embrace the change and why it is necessary. In this case, it is important to let them know that it would be essential for them to continue their education with the rise of new technology and new threads of infections.
Continuing education will positively impact individual performance as some of the employees might land themselves promotions from continuing education, which motivates them to work better and influences more positive outcomes. Increasing education also enables them to get job promotions and feel useful at their workplace, which is important as it increases performance and their satisfaction at work.
To motivate the employees to embrace the continuing education policy, employers should consider leading by example. Leading by example will show them that the leaders embrace the education culture and that it is good for them to adopt. Offering an educational development stipend will also motivate the employees to embrace education and continuing education, especially in healthcare (Rutigliano et al., 2017). The classes can also be made easily available online such that they do not complain that they are not easily accessible and also so that they can perform other tasks while they are still pursuing their education.
Teams can be put into action when taking the two hours of continuing education by enabling teams to support and encourage each other. The use of teams also allows employees to feel like they are doing it as a team and that they are not continuing education alone (Rutigliano et al., 2017). Teams might also support each other in viewing the policy from different points of view, and if they take different classes, it strengthens the teams as each team player brings a different point of view to the table.
