ANSWER
Allied Medical Waste Transport Case
Major Problem or Issues
Allied medical waste transport is a waste management company based in Oklahoma that focuses on medical waste. The company was established to solve the threats of poor disposal of medical waste. There was a need for regulatory and legal frameworks that addressed the waste management gap that endangered the lives of the people living in that area. Rather than just picking up waste and transporting it to where it’s required, the company effectively supports the process from the beginning to the end through packaging, documentation, and waste treatment (Allied U.S.A, 2020).
AMWT is planning to expand its operations to create a veterinary division. This requires a strategic marketing plan that is faced with various issues. The major issues facing the AMWT veterinary division include high financial costs in implementing the division and marketing constraints. Ms. West believes that Allied is using a poor marketing strategy that may influence their new division’s financial feasibility. Ms. West argues that the current marketing strategies personal selling and direct mail may influence the ability of the company to reach its full potential. Considerably, when the marketing strategy is inappropriate, and implementation is poor, the company is likely to encounter challenges. Ideally, marketing is considered ad the backbone of a business since it generates the right awareness among consumers as well as reputation over time. AMWT uses direct mail and personal marketing to reach out to the target clients, which seems to be of a small constituent. These marketing strategies would take the company a longer period to achieve the required results.
The project is associated with the high financial costs of running the project. According to the implementation plans, the project will be financially independent. The program launch will require $100,000 and similar charges such as revenue and statutory location charges. The veterinary division is a new division that might face myriad financial issues that may affect its financial performance. Inconsistent cash flow will have a great impact on the financial performance of the company. Ideally, inconsistent cash flow is both linked to outflow and inflow of cash, which means that the amounts of cash receivable do not meet the requirements of the cash payable, which may lead to financial performance challenges.
AMWT is facing challenges linked to the right systems for its new business operation in the new veterinary division. Ideally, all businesses rely on financial records, budgets, policies, and regulations to effectively interact with customers. Putting the right infrastructure and strategy is essential to the growth and sustainability of the business. Unfortunately, AMWT lacks an effective strategy for the new division to effectively meet its goals for growth. Ideally, poor planning has led to ineffective strategies on how to integrate planning.

In addition, they have trained workers such as drivers that have been highly skilled to ensure that they offer the best quality services.
Weakness: AMWT improper waste disposal has impacted the company’s image. Marketing strategy has also influenced the operations of the company.
Opportunities
AMWT has more opportunities in the global arena. For example, the demand for better waste management practices is increasing the demand for their services. In addition, customers such as medical facilities are interested in better ways of creating less impact of waste and garbage on the environment.
Threats:
The waste industry has been subjected to more government regulations that may restrict the operations and increase the cost of operations due to more capital expenditures (Reinhardt, 2018). Innovation and technology are changing the waste management practices with more ways of reusing and recycling waste, thus improving waste management. New emerging companies have increased rivalry, thus challenging AMWT on their energy and recycling programs.
Competitive Analysis
A number of competitors such as MedPro, BioMedical, and Republic Services have shared similar competitive strengths and success factors which have posed greater competition threats. Most waste management companies have been seen investing heavily in research and development to ensure that they offer environmental-friendly techniques in the disposal of medical waste (Gahutu, 2019). The waste management companies are now collaborating to lead innovative ways of managing and disposing of waste.
Financial Analysis
The new veterinary division shows an estimated growth in sales revenue for the next three years. The goal of the company is to have a 50% market penetration within the first three years. In the first year, the company targets a net income of $57 984 in the first year, $106 167 in the second year, and $161,269.50 in the third year.
Implementation Issues/Problems
Legislation rules and penetration strategies have greatly influenced the implementation of the veterinary division. For instance, the current veterinarians have not been obligated by any legislation rules regarding the disposal of animal waste. On the other hand, penetration approaches have been a great challenge since the company is operating in a limited geographic reach that may prevent the company from meeting its financial goals.
Evaluation/Control Procedures
AWMT has established procedures for the disposal and collection of medical waste, which align with the medical waste management policies. The company complies with OSHA, state biohazardous materials handling procedures, and HIPAA. For instance, they have an electronic manifest system that is used to support compliance and access disposal records. AWTM has complied with tracking, documentation, transport as well as waste disposal policies.
Strategic Implications of the Above Analysis
The strategic position AMWT allows it to develop and grow the new division. This is because the company has the capability and opportunity to grow the division. For instance, its market reputation and strong brand presence offer it a chance to market successfully and reach its potential.

For instance, the clear and compelling goals have offered exceptional motivation and transparent ways to strengthen their financial position. The company is focusing on developing the veterinary division, which is aimed at a substantial growth and meeting the desired sales levels.
Restructuring Needs
The veterinary division will demand restructuring due to new staff, procedures, and policies that will have to incorporate the new division. Ideally, setting up a new division requires restructuring. For instance, AMWT will require new servicemen and salesmen to ensure that the division is operating effectively.
Strategic Implications of the Multi-Line of Business Analysis
The current strategy at AMWT may fail to translate into the new veterinary division due to changes in the current procedures and processes. Considerably, the division may fail to respond to the current procedures, which means that the organization will need to restructure its strategies. In addition, the company has to ensure that they maintain the quality of service to keep their reputation.
Alternative Solutions to Problems/Issues
Social Media Marketing
Considerably, AMWT marketing strategies may prevent the company’s ability to meet its performance goals. Currently, the company is utilizing sales calls, telemarketing support, and mail campaign, which may take them some time to reach their full potential. Social media marketing will enable the business to achieve its goals online via social media pages. Social media marketing strategies have been used to grow a business faster since most people can interact with the brand online. Therefore, AMWT can rely on social media marketing to strategize the campaign for the new division and sufficiently reach a larger audience, thus increasing their target market. However, the main challenge with social media marketing is that the amount of content on social media platforms is growing; thus, the audience gets bored and tired quickly, always requiring something new. Therefore, in order to effectively engage with the audience on social media, there is a need to create updates that will attract new consumers.
Training and Grouping Licensed Vets
One of the most effective ways of launching the new line of business through the veterinary division is licensed training veterans on the effectiveness of animal waste management. In addition, the company needs to create a selling pitch that will be used to justify the effectiveness of its operations. Ideally, successful selling involves building a connection with the prospective client. However, training and creating a successful sales pitch may fail to justify potential gains since there is no assurance that they will meet the management’s expectations to pick up waste from the vet clinics.
Strategic Plan
To succeed in the new division, AMWT requires a strategic plan which includes setting the marketing goals, carrying out the marketing audit, conducting market research, identifying the target audience, and developing an implementation schedule that will increase the opportunities of sales and build a sustainable competitive advantage (Pearce & Robinson, 2013). The strategic plan will create realistic goals and objectives that are inconsistent with the company’s capacity for implementation. However, the effort and time required may fail to yield a return.
Recommended Course of Action\Justification
AMWT requires strategic planning that will enable the company to reach its potential through aligning the functional activities to attain the set goals. Ideally, AMWT is planning to open a new division that requires restructuring of the company. Strategic planning will allow the management to have an effective implementation plan that will sufficiently allow the organization to yield its full potential (Pearce and Robinson, 2013). In addition, strategic planning will allow the company to assess the risks and frame approaches that will minimize the risks of the new division.
Implementation Plan
A strategic plan will be documented and established to create direction for the new division. The strategic plan will include a record of the vision, mission, values, and long-term goals. The steps for the strategic planning process will include determining the strategic position, prioritizing the objectives, developing a strategic plan, and evaluating the plan. Following these steps will ensure that the different options are considered, including its resource allocation and execution. The strategic plan will shape the activities in the new division and help overcome the challenges that the company will face in meeting its goals.
