Traces of History in the Present

  1. Introduction

Topic sentence: History traces in the present lie in different places, and one can only recognize this if they are looking.

  1. History is all about ideas and insights. As earlier stated, there are various historical sources, and these can be found in different places. An example of a place where history can be found is through oral traditions. An example is African history, where they pass down stories of their heritage orally from one generation to the next.
  2. Archeology can also be used to create insights on things that happened in the past. An example in which archeology is used to create history is the archeological skulls used to explain man’s evolution (Bassi).
  • Traces of history can also be found in ancient writings and tools which are found in museums.
  1. History can also be found in the art that was created in the past. For example, the Louvre in Paris holds collections of art created during the French revolution, and from this art, a historian will have a rough idea of the events that happened during this period or what motivated the artist to paint the art (Blake and Jeniffer).

III) Body Paragraph 2

Topic sentence: consequently, traces of history can be found in the music of the past or oral traditions. For example, some songs were sung by African Americans that narrate their struggle for equality and freedom from slavery.

  1. These history traces could include oral traditions such as poetry (Groeneveld). An example of such poetry is the work of Hughes and other poets during the Harlem renaissance.
  2. There is also the use of oral traditions such as the use of music

Ethnography also involves learning the crafts and artistic skills of the people (Groeneveld). For example, when one studies modern-day technology, there is a possibility of going back to the early inventions and the industrial revolution.
