Which stakeholders did Trzaska and the management of L’Oreal cater to? Why?
Trzaska catered to the customers who needed the best advice that could lead to successful patent applications. Trzaska believed in the need to guide customers according to by admitting only quality patent applications that he was certain would convince the USPTO. The management of L’Oreal catered for the owners of the company. The management fired Trzaska for failing to consider increasing the number of patent filings that he accepted. The management did not consider the quality of the patents but was rather interested in the quantity of the fillings because this would increase profits for the owners.
What values did L’Oreal’s management choose when they made the decision to fire Trzaska? Why?
L’Oreal’s management chose to respect and courage when they decided to fire Trzaska. They claimed that Trzaska did not adhere to the guidelines hence the management had to act decisively with the courage to remove him.
How did the WH Framework help you analyze the situation?
The WH Framework provided a roadmap of who was responsible for making different decisions and implementing various actions as required in the organization. The WH Framework was pivotal in finding out the principles that had been set by L’Oreal to guide the process of filing patents. The framework was pivotal in listing out what was needed of every player in the company and those that were not up to the task hence exposing the success of the company. L’Oreal USA enacted two contradicting policies that placed Steven J. Trzaska at crossroads. His ethical standards could be jeopardized if he followed the demands of the company to file patents to the USPTO without considering the quality.
Now that you’ve put together the framework, how does the WH Framework help managers with making business decisions?
The WH Framework enables managers to consider the moral dimensions of situations that they face (Lawton & Páez, 2015). This enables managers to make informed decisions that operate according to all the moral standards applicable. The framework helps in identifying key themes, raising important questions, and providing a strong basis for making informed decisions that can be suspended.
What type of decisions would the WH Framework chart help you make as a manager?
The WH Framework will help me make decisions on moral issues that affect businesses and employees. The corporate world is often faced with several ethical issues that put undue pressure on managers. I believe that organizations should have a set of ethical principles that they should adhere to while making all essential decisions. The model will also help me make decisions on managing human resources. Should there be any violations of principles by employees, it will be easier for a manager to use the WH Framework to make the most effective and informed decision.
