Change is an essential part of an organization, but that doesn’t mean there are no stumbling blocks. Implementation of change within the healthcare organization is likely to experience challenges and barriers linked to modifications in experiences and routine operations (Turner, 2019). Conducting a survey regarding nurses’ experiences when working in the healthcare organization would be effective in the implementation of the change. They form the base to compare the outcome after implementing interventions.
A significant challenge in implementing the change could be staff complaints about the new procedure and the organizational changes. Some staff may fail to take the new procedures as they have done things over the years and don’t want to change their ways. Employees are concerned that the procedural and technical changes will result in unintended changes in the organizational social environment. For instance, some nurses have been used to self-scheduling, which has been critical in boosting their morale since they have complete control over their work and personal time. They may feel that shift scheduling will influence their work flexibility resulting in job dissatisfaction.
Lack of clear scope is one of the significant barriers to facilitating change in the workforce. Failing to communicate the change leads to change resistance. For instance, the nurses need to see the future of shift scheduling and whether this long-term change will positively improve the nurse workforce. Employees develop a comfort level when they see that the management supports the change process. Therefore, the management must support change when communicating and interacting with the employees (Turner, 2019). The organization will communicate the transition to the nurses in a structured and systematic manner to prevent change conflicts. Change communication will help the nurses advance from where they are to the new situation they are required to. The communication plan will include the change goals and objectives, outcomes and the entire change process. The communication plan will help drive the necessary and desired changes in the nursing workforce.
