The development of technology has led to the development of games, thus raising the issues of race, gender, and sexuality when it comes to video games. Society is advancing, and therefore, the issues faced by society are also being faced in the gaming industry. The issue of diversity and its introduction to the gaming industry has led to some people having issues with how it is introduced. It is, however, important to understand that diversity is essential in gaming. In the past, gender roles made it look like girls should not be playing video games or that girls could not be used as characters (Gray, 2018). Girls have now been used in video games, and this is a good thing as it inspires the girls who want to play video gems. It also gives them role models who are not straight white men. Having characters of different sexual orientations also helps the people playing identify with their characters.

Gender, race and sexuality continue to impact the gaming industry. The groups of people have reported the inequalities they face in the digital gaming communities. The gaming industry has kept women marginalized, but these are not the only people who are experiencing the problem of marginalization (Gray, 2018). Some of these gamers have resulted in concealing their identities on the internet to protect themselves from bullying and discrimination. The internet is a vast place, and therefore issues of discrimination in terms of race, gender and sexuality might be harder to control. This has led to groups of people such as lesbian gamers of colour isolating themselves from the gaming community. Anonymous digital spaces are concerning as they are filled with trills and political dissidents.
