How much waste do you generate? Look into your waste bin at the end of the day, and categorize and measure the waste there. List all other waste you may have generated in other places throughout the day. How much of this waste could you have avoided generating? How much could have been reused or recycled?
ANSWER
Waste Auditing
Waste is unavoidable despite how well-intentioned the environmental efforts may be; every person, institution, and business generates waste daily. Waste production is inevitable when managing a busy or big family household. The garbage generated every day is approximately 30 pounds at my house because of the large family. The dust bin is always full at the end of the day, and they are made up of paper waste, plastics, and organic materials. This waste audit is done every day because it allows me to understand the level of waste I currently generate and how much I would recycle instead. This information keeps my household greener and waste products easier to manage. Since I know the waste materials produced most within the household, it becomes easier to reduce the reliance on these materials to save the environment and money as well.
The waste generated in other places is mainly made up of plastics because I usually buy take-away meals, and they come in a disposable plastic tin, so after eating up, I dispose of the plastics in a dustbin. After several researches, it is clear that most dustbins are made up of plastic materials, whether waste bottles or polythene bags. Several of these waste products can be reduced by utilizing cloth bags instead of polythene bags. Paper waste can still be recycled to produce other products. Still, the plastic materials can be recycled into more significant products. They can be washed, shredded into flakes, or melt processed to create pellets before proceeding into new items. In summary, waste auditing is a meaningful way to group and calculate important information. Materials which can be recycled should be separated from the others to allow easy sorting and auditing.
