Having recently encountered different policies and procedures at the transitional care facility, I have discovered that there have been issues concerning limited access to essential health services by the people in the community. Most of these issues are as a result of policies that are out dated hence less effective (World Health Organization, 2020). The issues are therefore unfair to people in the society whose health need to be protected and promoted. Everyone deserves fair and equal opportunity so as to have optimal health and well-being. Maintaining access to important life-saving health services is a significant health response strategy to everyone. Considering that important features and available resources normally change with time, essential package of health services guidance should be highly flexible and adaptable in case of any changes. This article discusses certain procedures and policies which are likely to be of significance to health services management.
The first health care policy and procedure is the implementation of an effective system that will ensure equality in distribution of individual services and care required for good health. There has been the issue of health inequity, whereby healthcare services are distributed differently depending on ethnicity, economic status, and geographical region (Hogan et al, 2018). Some people have found it hard to access and utilize quality health care services. This policy will therefore, enable most of the people in the community to easily access those quality essential healthcare services. The second policy is the building and maintenance of good healthcare infrastructure. A strong public health infrastructure must constitute of skilled and qualified workforce, information systems, updated information and health care agencies that can quickly respond to any public health need. Therefore, public health workforce should be supported, developed and trained on various skills so as to offer quality services to the community. Some members of the community should also be encouraged to be health volunteers since they can help in improving access and use of essential health services by the community (Woldie et al, 2018).
Finally, the third health policy is to inform, educate and empower the community on matters concerning their health and factors that influence it. Public health professionals can spread the information to the community once they have known about the health issue, the people it impacts and what can be done to prevent it. The health of the people can also be done by strengthening and supporting them. Improving public health functions should be done through research and evaluation (Hogan et al, 2018). Assessing and monitoring the health status of the people in the community is very vital when public health improvement is concerned. This helps in knowing and understating where and how resources should be allocated, and also areas of priority.
Other policies and procedures are; investigating and addressing any health hazard that has influence on the people and health problems, enforcing rules and regulations that aid in protecting health and ensuring safety, linking individuals to the required health services, mobilizing partnership among communities to identify and solve health problems, evaluating the effectivity and accessibility of quality health services, conducting research on innovative solution to health issues. The highlighted policies can be done by asking questions to the public hence gathering new information that would help in achieving new and better ways for solving those health problems.
