What is a scientific theory? Please cite a definition that you like.
What is the difference between a scientific theory and common sense ideas about the same topic (for example, why a child seeks a bottle at birth)?
Determine at least one thing that distinguishes a developmental theory from other theories about people?
How could a good developmental theory be valuable for social policy and your own life?
What major issue(s) in developmental theory do you feel is(are) most important and why? (If needed, refresh your memory by reviewing pages 16-17 in the Lally & Velentine-French textbook.)

Human Development
A scientific theory is a well-thought-out explanation for what happens in the natural world. It is constructed using scientific methods which bring together facts and hypotheses. The difference between common sense and scientific theory is that common sense involves the usual understanding of practical matters (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019). For example, according to common sense, a child reaches out for a bottle because it is hungry according to common sense. Scientific theories involve studying the physical and the natural based on observation and experimentation. According to some scientific theories, a child reaches for a bottle because it needs to satisfy its oral pleasure.
The developmental theory is different from other theories as it is mainly focused on human development. That is the growth of the human body and mind. According to the theory, all the stages in the development of a person are important, and none dominates the other (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019).
The social policy provides a social purpose for economic development and forms indicators of social development and social values that must be upheld. A good developmental their helps in creating social policy, and it is also helpful for people as it gives a framework for what one should be doing at a particular time in life. It provides structure in life.
One of the issues of developmental theory I feel is important is the issue of nature versus nurture. This is because the debate of nature versus nurture still goes on, especially in criminal cases where some people believe somebody is a bad person because they are naturally born as bad people and nurture where the environment around them causes them to be bad people. I believe nobody is born to be a criminal, and thus nurture plays the biggest role in how a person will turn out.
