Family Intervention M5D

I have learned several things in this course. There are many concepts that I did not understand, such as family theory. The chapter on family therapy and the history of unresolved trauma where family unpacked their history of not unpacking the loss they had gone through and how it had affected them through different generations helped me understand that sometimes the problems seen in children who are brought in for therapy stems from a deeper root problem stemming from their parents (Wickett, 2022). I understood the importance of understanding the roots of the family and the family problems before creating an intervention as it helps one understand the issues facing the family or the individual and the best intervention.

I learned that working with a family can be more rewarding than with an individual. For example, in a situation where one child seems to be acting up in school and at home, it is important to get to the root cause of the problem. The root cause of the problem does not lie with the child. It lies with the whole family. It is therefore important to work with the family as working together helps them face their issues and prevents them from coming back to therapy.

I found the different interventions that are involved in family therapy very helpful. This is because they increase communication in the family, and it helps the troubled individual feel safe or like when they return home, they do not have to be closed off or act up because the family understands them. The new knowledge I have acquired in this case will be used in future work, especially when dealing with teenagers. It will help me help them by bringing in the family to explore the root cause of their problems.
