ANSWER
Behavioral Couples Therapy
According to the Behavioral couple’s therapy approach, a healthy family is comprised of people who can communicate in a healthy manner and in clear terms so that the partner can understand. It is also about learning to listen and hear the other person out before responding and being able to clarify misunderstandings (Goldenberg & Goldenberg, 2012). According to this approach, family problems are caused by misunderstanding or failure to listen to each other. It is a result of failure to effectively communicate with each other and being able to explain one’s point of view till their partner understands.
The couple in this video is having problems with their communication. They are not communicating their needs, and this leads to fights. According to the behavioral approach, the couple needs to talk and listen to each other’s needs. From my observation, the therapist did not miss anything in the therapy session. He guided the couple as a model to guide the couple to solve their problems.
In my opinion, the therapist was calm and guided the couple to listen to each other. He listened to their problems, asked the right questions, and then let them explore the issues they thought were bringing the problems in their relationship (Psychotherapy.net). I was impressed by the guiding questions that he kept asking the couple and how he listened to them and answered them. This guided the couple to do the same to each other and address the issues that they were facing in their family. It also helped them see what a conversation between two people should look like and follow the example. This helped rebuild the communication line in the relationship, which was already broken.
