Hello, going by Mary Ainsworth’s theory on the development and attachment in infants, one can deduce that your children had two different attitudes regarding attaching to the caregiver and the caregiver, in this case, you. Your second child has a secure attachment style where they explore freely when you are here and are okay interacting with a stranger. Your firstborn had an ambivalent attachment style where they were clingy to you and would rather cling to you than explore with you (Lally & Valentine-French, 2019). Children have different temperaments when they are born, and yours happened to have these two types of temperaments. According to your discussion, your first child was clingy because you rushed to pick them, which could be true, but it is also possible that they were born with that temperament, but as you said, with time, they detached from you. It is good that you have good parenting skills and that you did not get easily frustrated by how clingy they were, as with time, they learned to trust you through your consistency and, thus, detached.
