My professional career goal is to be a nurse researcher. Nursing research is vital to the nursing profession and is a growing necessity in the continued advancement which promotes optimal nursing care. Considerably, the role of nurses has evolved significantly within the 21st century with roles carrying different responsibilities. A nurse researcher studies various aspects of illness, health and healthcare. Through structuring and implementing scientific studies, nurse researchers look for ways to improve healthcare services and outcomes.
The professional responsibilities of nurse researcher include protection of animal and human subjects in the study, designing studies that offer valid results and accurately reporting scientific results that improve the health outcomes. Nursing research has great influence in the present and future of professional nursing standards of practice (Nieswiadomy and Bailey, 2018). For instance, when nurses in intensive care units want to determine the best approach in controlling patient’s blood glucose level, nurse researchers provide evidence for the best approach to accomplish glycemic control.
Over the years, nursing research has provided a body of skills and knowledge that help improve the nursing practice. The findings of nursing researchers such as the scientific inquiry help in shaping the global healthcare and health policy. Nurses rely on research to contribute to positive outcomes for the patients and the healthcare system (Erickson and Pappas, 2020). Over the years, patient’s needs have become more varied requiring nurses to rely on evidence based care through incorporation of research within the professional experience and patient’s needs. As a nurse researcher, I will contribute to clinical research which focuses on care of individuals across the entire life.
Currently, the healthcare system has become complex and patients have varied needs. Developing solutions through nursing research has continued helping address diverse health issues. As a nurse research, I will play a significant role in conducting scientific studies, collecting data and reporting findings that address complex health problems and questions. The responsibilities of nursing researchers help in building knowledge base and providing evidence to guide interventions while working in research organizations, healthcare facilities and laboratories.
