Six Sigma – Explanation
Six Sigma refers to a set of quality-control tools that businesses can use to eliminate defects and improve processes to help boost their profits. Six Sigma is a statistical- and data-driven process that works by reviewing limit mistakes or defects. It emphasizes cycle-time improvements while reducing manufacturing defects to no more than 3.4 occurrences per million units or events. This means that an error generally occurs with a six-standard deviation event from the mean because only 3.4 out of a million events along a bell curve would fall outside of six standard deviations. DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. This methodology is the guidance for six sigma and provides a clear path to improve the organization.
Comparison
There are many articles which cover Six Sigma. For instance, there are authors who have contributed over 150 journal and conference papers to the topics of lean and Six Sigma (Antony et al., 2017). They believe that LSS will continue to grow and evolve across the globe for several years. A feature which surprised me was the impact on energy saving and the usage of natural resources Six Sigma can produce. There are results which show Six Sigma can be considered an effective method to support the conservation of resources, combat global warming and the saving energy (Chugani et al., 2017).
When it comes to process improvement, data is an important component. Process mining offers a set of techniques for gaining data-based insights into business processes from event logs (Graafmans et al., 2021). This practice proves the importance of using process mining to provide Six Sigma practitioners with new perspectives and tools to find root causes quickly. An interesting finding revealed the most important and significant factors for the effective implementation of Six Sigma are project management, leadership, selection of top talented people and financial accountability (Laureani & Antony, 2018). There has been a wide range of articles written on the subject of Six Sigma.
Article Summary
The article I chose to review is “Lean, Six Sigma, and Lean Six Sigma in the food industry: A systematic literature review”. The food industry is extremely competitive due to the high demand of a wide range of products with short delivery times and price fluctuations. In addition, there are long processing times with quality controls and additional time required for packaging. These complex manufacturing processes are ripe for modernization through methodologies like Lean Six Sigma. The focus of Lean is to improve process flow and reduce waste and variability, Six Sigma mainly concentrates on improving the processes by identifying problems and gathering and analyzing data to identify and eliminate the root causes of these problems.
Managerial factors have shown to be the strongest influences as critical success factors when continuous improvement initiatives are adopted. The result of the authors review also found that, managerial factors were identified as the most important (89%) to food industry businesses. The high number of barriers were identified in the studies as being human related. A reason for this may be the lack of knowledge and resistance to change. The low value of operational factors may also explain the lack of the problem-solving tools, as A3 and dashboard. This study shows that while an industry may be a great fit for Six Sigma, there needs to be buy in from all levels of the organization to make it effective.

Biblical Integration
In the bible we find that we should do our best and live our lives in a way which glorifies the Lord. In Psalms 119:96 it reads “To all perfection I see a limit, but your commands are boundless.” In Proverbs 15:22 we read “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” In James 1:4 we read “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” These passages all reflect on the ability for us to achieve great things through God, but we must work together to achieve our goals. Six Sigma is about reducing errors and achieving a near perfect system.
Application
Six Sigma has real world application due to the fact it can be utilized by any organization seeking to improve its efficiency. It is primarily geared toward manufacturing businesses, but every organization can take applicable guidance from the six sigma principles. Efficiency and accuracy are important qualities for every business and employee. Implementing processes which make the most sense and cut out unnecessary steps are keys to creating more production with less wasted resources. While it is not a focus of sig sigma, an office environment can implement steps and processes to prevent errors and increase performance. Anyone that has worked in a traditional office environment has seen inefficiency from lackluster employees or terrible records management processes. With modern tools, many of these office tasks can be fully or partially automated to reduce human error.
ANSWER
Six Sigma
Six Sigma is a set of quality-control tools that businesses can use to eliminate defects and improve processes to help boost profits. It is a data-driven process that works by reviewing limits, mistakes, or defects. It emphasizes cycle-time improvements ad also reduces manufacturing defects. Six Sigma is mostly focused on using statistics as a measurement of success. Six Sigma is mostly focused on reducing process variation and enhancing process control. Lean Six Sigma, on the other hand, drives out waste (Chugani et al., 2017). It does not add value to the processes and produces but focuses on reducing waste. Integrating lawn and six Sigma enables the organization to provide quality for the customer at a friendly cost. Lean focuses on waste reduction while sic Sigma emphasizes variation reduction. Lean achieves its goals by using less technical tools (Singh & Rathi, 2018). It involves e use of tools such as workplace organization, and visual controls, while six Sigma uses statistical data analysis and design of experiments.
I agree that six Sigma is useful as any organization can utilize it. It improves efficiency, and it can be used in the manufacturing world. According to the Bible in John chapter 6, after the disciples and the crowd had eaten to their fill, Jesus told the disciples to gather up the leftover fragments so that nothing might be lost. Lean Six Sigma focuses on preventing waste. Your discussion focuses on reducing waste in the food industry, and thus, following in the footprints of Jesus, we should reduce waste like Jesus told His disciples; it is important to focus on reducing waste, especially in the manufacturing industry and also in the food industry.
