Aaron Douglas’s style “is the result of a deep-rooted belief that in trying to imitate the actual world, art-as-likeness was really falsifying the way we see that world.” Although all art is a form of imitation—whether of the actual or the imaginary world—Douglas’s belief highlights the way artists have used conflicting methods of getting to the “truth” of the world. Realist Art and Art Alteration 

Realistic art originated in the 19^th century and incorporated skills that achieved realistic representation of the world through images. On the other hand, the art alteration illustrates the altered view of the world. The two art methods differ regarding message presentation and stylistic creation techniques.

The first image illustrates the realistic technique of art representation, while the second image depicts the art of alteration. The artists’ method differs from each other as realistic method portrays the truth, accuracy, and realism of the world. It offers an honest view of how the world looks; hence, the image intends to achieve the abstract truth of the world. Compared to the realistic view of the world through the art depiction, the art alteration focuses on the denial of realistic truth by ignoring the aspect of nature, contemporary life, and society in general (Brecht, 2018). Thus, the two methods of art representation focus on attaining the truth of the world differently.

The first art depicts an absolute truth, while the second art illustrates an abstract truth. The first image shows realistic images of men posting for a photo shoot. The image is concerned with the physical truth without embellishment(Nagel, 2011). The image is a real-life scene that it depicts. On the other hand, the second image is alteration incorporates different techniques and materials to transform ordinary objects into a decorative pieces. In this case, the second image is altered with linear style to illustrate emotions within the images and thus an abstract truth. Therefore, the art of alliteration is more concerned with the psychological truth than the exact physical truth of the world.

In conclusion, realistic art and art alteration depict the world uniquely. While realistic art depicts the real scenes as captured in the contemporary world, the art alteration focuses on using various techniques to represent the emotional aspect of the image.
