Hello Blair, indeed, sacred laws’ punishment can be severe. For example, in a country such as Saudi Arabia, if one breaks some of the laws that have been set, they could be subject to public punishment (Dammer & Albanese, 2013). Women are often punished severely for walking around without covering their heads. Scared law does not have room for what should be. They only have room for what is.
I believe common law is the kind of law that we use in most societies today. In most societies, under common law, the accused is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty (Dammer & Albanese, 2013). The problem with common law is that the systems do not always work equally for all. The presumption of innocence till guilty applies differently, especially to the wealthy and powerful. People from minority groups and low-income communities are sometimes presumed guilty till proven innocent.
