***Describe my current situation and how this has affected me regarding life and school-***Describe what would I do different to ensure my success in the program/school, this is a very delicate and sensitive event for me and my family since my grandmother who lives in Cuba is going through a very difficult moment since she had been unable to contain urine at night for months, she was drooling and had many problems remembering the names and moments of her life, this has affected me in many aspects since she raised me and part of my life I grew up by her side after this episodes considered Transient strokes she was diagnosed with advanced Alzheimer, it has been very difficult for me to process this since I am so far from her and the medicine and resources in Cuba are not the best, there is not a variety of food in Cuba so her nutrition is not the best and she has lost a lot of weight as well and barely any vitamins or medicine.

Personal Reflection

I grew up with my grandmother as my primary guardian and caregiver. Recently, my grandmother has gotten ill, which has affected me as I no longer live in Cuba. Growing up, she was a big part of my life, and the thought that she is suffering and I am not by her side has been bothering me. Every day I wish to get to her and give her the help she needs as she is the one person I felt believed in my abilities even when I was being my worst self. She taught me to believe in myself, and her illness has affected me in life and even in my school life. I find that on many nights I cannot sleep because I am thinking of her and her deteriorating health. It has also got me thinking about the healthcare system in Cuba and what can be done to improve it.

Consequently, my school work has been impacted negatively. This is because sometimes I find myself unable to concentrate on school tasks. I know that in order to make a difference in my country, I will need to focus on school, but sometimes it is hard to imagine that my grandmother is probably going to die in some of the worst circumstances that one could ever imagine. My grandmother was a strong woman, and I know right now she feels like she has been stripped of her dignity by not being able to control her life. I hope I will soon be able to travel back to Cuba and see her. I believe that although she might find it hard to remember me because of Alzheimer’s, she will find comfort in me visiting and talking to her.
