Imagine that you have been hired as a consultant to investigate the social responsibility of two companies, TOMS Shoes (Impact Overview | TOMS) and The Body Shop (About Us | The Body Shop History | The Body Shop®). Your manager finds both of these companies to be inspirational. She would like the SNHU Pet Supply Company to become more socially conscious and has asked you to investigate what Toms and The Body Shop are doing. You are responsible for researching how their socially responsible practices impact both the companies and their customers. Your manager would like you to make some suggestions about how the SNHU Pet Supply Company can become more socially responsible and make ethical decisions.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility is a business model that helps companies be socially responsible. It involves giving back to the community. Social responsibility involves the idea that a company should have a positive role in the community and consider the environment and social impact of the business decisions. TOMS Shoes has a positive role in the community by investing half of the profits in the company for the grassroots good by offering grants and partnerships with the community (Wickert & Risi, 2019). this ensures that the money they get is given back to the community by helping other companies grow. The Body Shop has helped eradicate animal testing in the cosmetics industry in Europe and championed laws on domestic violence. It has also brought awareness and funded the HIV crisis. The company has campaigned against human trafficking, the burning of the rainforest, and human rights abuses in the Niger Delta.

Adopting socially conscious policies is beneficial for businesses in many ways. It gives the brand better recognition, helps create a positive business reputation, increases sales and customer loyalty, and leads to better financial performance (Wang & Chen,2019). Corporate social responsibility also gives the business easier access to capital.

One socially responsible policy that the SNHU pet supply company could put in place is giving back to the community by providing free supplies for the animal rescue centers in the community. It could also be involved in championing animal rights and rescuing abused animals from their owners. This would benefit the company as it would be more popular with pet owners. This would lead to the company making more sales and gaining popularity. It will improve the brand image and also improve the company’s financial performance.
