ANSWER

Academic Research Versus Applied Research

The expected differences between Academic Research and Applied Research

Academic research entails a systematic investigation into a situation or a problem. It intends to identify facts and or opinions that will aid in solving the problem or situation. On the other hand, applied research entails a scientific study and research which aims to solve practical problems. It plays a critical role in solving everyday problems that often impact life, health, work, and overall well-being. This means that the significant difference between the two is that academic research aims to identify facts and solve a problem or a situation. In contrast, applied research seeks to solve a practical everyday problem. Academic research focuses on goals arising from independent researchers, where it mainly sues formal scientific and systematic procedures intending to discover answers (Anderson, 2020). On the other hand, applied research is primarily used in business, medicine, and education. It seeks to identify solutions that may help improve health, solve scientific problems, and assist in developing new technology (Cadotte, Jones, & Newton, 2020). The main thing about academic research is that it leads to recommendations but not necessarily answers to solving problems (Meissner & Shmatko, 2019). Applied research, on the contrary, helps in answering the issues.

When is it most appropriate to use Academic Research (also known as Scholarly Research)?

It is most appropriate to use academic research when trying to develop or enhance knowledge to facilitate learning. This primarily applies to students who want to gain a precise understanding by researching with specific objectives. Through academic research, one can comprehend specific issues through varied angles that were never identified or talked about much (Kostoulas, et al., 2019). Academic research is most suitable for scholars since it goes beyond a personal experience and is evidence-based on rationality and facts. It, as a result, one gets for further discussion and discourse.

When is it most appropriate to use Applied Research (also known as Professional Research)?

It is most appropriate to use applied research when seeking to solve a problem associated with a business. This is since by using this type of research, one will be able to analyze and identify the changes a specific business is facing and, as a result, help develop innovative solutions (Meishar-Tal & Pieterse, 2017). It is most important to apply the research since, in such a case, it will help ensure a practical appellation of scientific methods is applied to aid in improving the business.

What style of research interests you and why?

The style of research that interests me most is the applied research. This is since, first, it helps come up with practical solutions to a given challenge. It requires that a researcher takes extra care to identify the problem, develop a hypothesis, and test the identified hypothesis through an experiment. Unlike academic research, the applied research ensures that there are practical solutions, and not just theoretical (Cadotte, Jones, & Newton, 2020). I would also settle for applied research since it tends to have a direct approach when seeking the solution to a problem. It is also typical follow-up research, where it tends to investigate the findings further of primary research to validate the results and ensure that they are applied to create innovative solutions.
