Accountability is important to research, and the implications are especially important to health care research. Researchers must act with integrity and apply high standards of ethical behavior in their research. You must understand that your judgement and actions help shape research not only due to what you include in it, but also due to what you omit from a study.
Effective research begins with reviewing the literature. In this annotated bibliography assignment, you will demonstrate your skill in accountability as you evaluate the impact of legal and regulatory requirements on health care research, in addition to those impacts on the delivery of health care.

Select health topics of interest to you or your job, with no complex statistical analyses.

Assignment Directions
Prepare an annotated bibliography of the 4 peer-reviewed research articles you selected from the University Library. For each of the 4 peer-reviewed research articles:
Write a 150- to 200-word summary in your own words of each research article.
Describe the major areas of the research article, such as the sample, geographic location, and the outcome. Remember, annotations must not include any direct quotes or in-text citations.
Explain the legal or regulatory impact of the research study described in the research article.

Courtemanche et al., (2018) used data from a survey which studied the influence of Affordable Care Act on the health-linked results. This research aimed to reexamine the underlying effects of the health provision act on health coverage, self-evaluated health, and care access through newly released data for 2016 BRFSS (Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System). The data was collected from various healthcare access in the District of Columbia and health for all the 50 states. According to Courtemanche et al. (2018), having a big sample size was significant for the research to prevent limiting the apparent effect size.
The data collected comprised of non-elderly adults in 2011-2016. The BRFSS effectively estimated the impacts of the state policy in the provision of healthcare. The study shows that the quality of primary care is a challenge to rural individuals and individuals who live in areas with a shortage of primary healthcare professionals. The state scope of practice (SOP) regulates the ability of nurse in the provision of care. The state of scope practice is governed by the reduced SOP, restricted and full SOP. Comprehending how the regulatory and legislative verdicts can impact the supply of nurse practitioners within rural areas or underserved regions may help guide active healthcare policies to lower the differences in care access.
The study’s objective was to examine the changes in the nurse practitioner supply and care provision in HPSA counties and rural areas concerning the state scope of practice guideline. Xue et al., (2018) relied on a longitudinal study that used a joined county-level national statistics collected between 2009 and 2013. A hierarchical mixed-effects model was conducted to evaluate the link between the SOP regulation and the supply of nurse practitioners. The research question for the study was the impact of laws and regulations on the administrative burden with references to the supportive and primary processes of Dutch long-term care. According to Maris et al., (2020), managers of healthcare institutions have struggled with the efficient implementation of government regulations in their daily operations. They indicate more time being spent on administrative tasks and a lack of uniformity and consistency when handling care workers’ administrative tasks.
This study focused on an explanatory multiple case study that was carried out to answer the research question. Three case studies were conducted between 2019 and 2020. Regarding the case studies, it is evident that 29 percent and 62 percent of the total perceived administrative burden by the long-term care health professions can be linked to the healthcare legislation.

The results indicated that the state scope of practice increasingly influences many healthcare labor market decisions. The study also indicates that self-employment and the number of working hours increase when the nurse practitioners are in regulatory settings that are unrestricted by oversight requirements of physicians.
