| Texas is among the states that have not adopted the new affordable care act. The ramifications of not endorsing the legislation are that there are high numbers of uninsured people, and therefore, a high population of Texans living under the minimum wage cannot afford healthcare (Sommers, 2016). Texas is home to 4.5 million people without health insurance. The lack of insurance leads to death from controllable lifestyle diseases and the overcrowding of emergency rooms. | ||

| The issue of insurance can be addressed by accepting the affordable care act, which covers most of the population and reduces the number of uninsured people. Legislation and advocacy by nurse legislators are therefore important in this case as ACA will reduce the number of patients in the emergency rooms and give the doctors more time to attend to more patients while delivering quality care. Advocacy can help loosen the rules of acquiring health insurance.

| Evidence 1 | According to Rudowitz & Antonisse (2018), ACA compels nurses to continue transformational leadership, which leads to the provision of quality. The availability of affordable healthcare is also advantageous for nursing outcomes as conditions are controlled before they get out of hand. | |

| The Medicaid expansion prides states with a 90 percent expansion over time. Under the law, the states that do not already have the expansion are eligible for a 5% point increase if they implement the expansion (Najmabadi, 2016). The result of the financial benefit would be $9.6 billion over the next two years, assuming all eligible people enroll. The new state costs for expansion would be 6.8 billion dollars. | ||

| Describe the steps for how you would present this to your legislator. | I would present the suggestion through writing to the legislator to vote and convince his colleagues to vote for the bill advocating for Medicaid expansion. | |
| Outline the process if your legislator chooses to introduce your idea as a bill to congress. | The rep will first sponsor the bill, and then it will be assigned to a committee for study. If the committee releases it, the bill will be put on the calendar to be voted on, debated, or amended. If it passes by a simple majority, it moves to the senate. | |

| As Christian brothers and sisters, it is only right we fight for each other and ensure every member of the community is receiving quality healthcare services. This can be done through advocating for the adoption of the Medicaid expansion to ensure that every citizen is covered and is receiving quality healthcare. | ||
