President Andrew Jackson’s Relationship with Native Americans

President Andrew Jackson advised the Native Americans to give up their land. He told them in his speech that it would be better if they moved away as it is better for the land not to be filled with savages and forests (Chapter 12). He tried to make them feel like moving away and settling away from the white settlers would do more good than it would harm them. President Jackson yanked the land away from the original owners and made it sound like he was doing them a favor. Jackson pushed the Native Americans away from their land, and this cannot be justified in any way. He called them savages and trivialized their existence (Rogin, 2017). He made them sound like lesser humans who needed to make space for the more human whites. He pushed them out of their land, and many of them lost their homes and their lives in the process of pushing them out. This is an act that cannot be justified.

The United States today is faced with conflict. The conflict between different races that live in this country and the white supremacy that goes on in the country. This is relevant to the country, and it is important for learners to learn the history of the native Indians because they need to understand that our forefathers pushed the rightful owners of the land out of their land (Eichler & Baumeister, 2020). It is also important to understand that Native Americans are more American than all the people who live in this country because it was their original home and the rest of us are settlers who pushed them out of their land. I would also want to hear the perspective of the native Indians because it is important to hear different perspectives. It expands knowledge and gives a clearer picture of what happened.
