SUBJECT: Anthropology and Climate Change
The effects of climate change are universal. It ravages through every scope of life and communities, regardless of the political, economic or cultural identities. Yet during these trying times, world leaders have found it hard to work together towards establishing efficient and permanent solutions to climate change. There are a couple of reasons that world leaders do not agree on this matter. For instance, the political opinions and setup among different countries make it hard for them to be amicable (Kousser & Tranter, 2018). Countries like the United States and North Korea have a delicate relationship to consider sitting at the table for logical conversations. On the other hand, China gains from its vast industrialization approach of economy, emitting fumes and leaving a larger carbon footprint (Kousser & Tranter, 2018). The profits they accrue from industries are great and make them reluctant to reduce the carbon footprint. On the cultural aspect, some communities have deeply rooted cultural beliefs regarding their involvement with climate change. This makes it hard for their leaders to have a quick solution to this matter.
However, climate change threats can be controlled and eventually turned around through understanding the world approach through the Anthropology scope. Anthropology is the study of human societies, their behaviour and development (Fiske et al, 2014). It helps in understanding the biology of different people, and it may help leaders working together. In an anthropology concept called ethnographic methods that entails studying community-based cultures, we learn that local people have a strong awareness of their climate. This will help leaders go back to their roots and see the value in their unity. Another concept, temporal depth, gives an insight into historical scales concerning archaeological research (Fiske et al, 2014). Going back in time shows how different communities embraced universal discussions to sustain the climate. This will help leaders understand the greater good of their collaboration for the benefit of the climate.
