In the early century, photography was seen as a way to document what existed. This was understood that photography took the role of the machines, camera, and chemicals. Since images were real, people had their unique themes and styles addressed in their work, and images believed to relay the truth. Socially conscious photography aimed to teach people and improve situations. With the increase of photographic images being kept, photography is losing its former vigor.
The creation of photography had massive effects on social consciousness and awareness in arts in that, its democratized art by making it more portable, cheaper, and accessible. For example, photographed pictures were less expensive and readily available than the painted portraits. Another effect of photography was its contribution towards liberating art from ties of realism to faculty. Until that point in history, painting depended on fixed subjects and was a procedure that took a given period to accomplish realistic outcomes. Photography was considered a way of seeing the world in images that could capture fleeting, momentary effects of sunlight and impossible movements under traditional studio conditions. Since the creation of photography, awareness was created in the western painting’s branch where there was the diversification of new genres, including expressionism, impressionism, and cubism. In these and other ways, it resulted in new artistic movements and challenged conventional perspectives concerning paintings.
Chronophotography, or what is called time-lapse photography, effected the creation of the work of Futurist and Cubist painters in the early 20th century. In the 50s and 40s, Jackson Pollock and other abstract expressionists facilitated this movement to the point where the painting had left behind the physical world’s representation entirely.
