A teacher’s success is measured using the quality of students they produce. If one looks at education discussion boards, there is no single definition of a successful teacher. It is hard to quantify what makes a teacher successful. However, successful students are the result of a successful teacher. Success is not necessarily measured by the good grades of the students in the modern-day classroom. There are many dimensions by which a teacher is judged. Their success should be reflected in the behavior of the students outside the classroom, their mental health, and their grades. A successful teacher in the modern-day classroom is, thus, one who produces all-rounded students. One who not only concentrates on the students’ academics but also looks after their well-being and ensures that they are in the right mental state to ensure they are comfortable in class.
A successful teacher in the modern-day classroom understands that poor grades are not necessarily because the student did not study. To be a successful teacher, one needs to connect with the students on a personal level and advise the students appropriately. For example, when a student fails, the teacher should try to talk to the student to understand why they failed. It is important to understand that external factors can also impact a student’s performance (Babadjanova, 2020). A teacher needs to be empathetic to the problems of their students in a modern-day classroom. They should be ready to guide the student when they are having problems, and if they do not have the right tools to help the student solve the problem, they should guide the student to a person who can help, such as the school counselor. Cultivating trust between the teacher and the students is important as the students will not have a problem going to the teacher whenever they have a problem.
The modern-day classroom should be treated like a company. The teacher is the manager, and as the manager, they are required to create a convenient working environment for the students. The teacher is required to create an environment where the students are comfortable. The class activities should be geared towards the interests of the students and to ensure that their needs are met (Babadjanova, 2020). Students will perform better if they feel the class activities were made to meet their interests. In a modern classroom, students are gifted differently. This is why the teacher should ensure that the class activities accommodate all the students. For example, if the students are given some classwork, some students will finish earlier than others. The teacher should ensure that they have extra activities for the students who finish earlier and also ensure those who finish late do not feel rushed.
Technology is an important factor in the modern-day classroom. Although technology is not a replacement for a great teacher, it is an essential part of being successful. A teacher who utilizes technology in their classroom is likely going to be successful. A teacher needs to keep up with modern technology to be successful in their profession (O’Neal et al., 2017). Students respond better to things they can relate to outside the classroom. Technology is one of those things, and thus, to be a successful teacher, one needs to embrace technology and use it in their lessons; this will ensure that the students enjoy the lessons and look forward to the lessons.
