The purpose of this assignment is to assess personal value in light of professional goals.
In the same way that an organization performs with greater intention and cohesiveness when its employees and stakeholders are all working with a communal sense of purpose toward a shared goal, you will be able to better and more successfully shape your future when you have a clear idea of who you are, the value you offer, and what you ultimately want to achieve. Your personal vision provides the framework for your goals by reflecting your aspirations for the individual you hope to become. And more concretely, your personal mission defines the areas in the industry where you intend to compete and the customers you intend to serve.
Together, your vision and mission statements offer a foundational identity, defining who you intend to serve and in what capacity (your mission), and how those elements will help you shape your intended future (your vision).
Based on what you have read in the topic Resources, develop your own personal vision and mission statements from the perspective of yourself as a business professional, supported by a goal plan that will enable you to achieve your vision in the next 5 to 10 years.
Include the following in your 1,000-1,250-word response:
Define your personal vision and mission statements.
List a minimum of five SMART goals you will need to achieve to reach your vision and describe how these relate to your overall personal strategy.
Identify significant personal standards or principles you hold and discuss how they guide, limit, or circumscribe your stated vision, mission, and goal plan.
What do you need to do (or keep doing) to ensure that you reach your vision and achieve your mission? How will you monitor and modify your plan to measure success in achieving your outlined goals?
How do the vision, mission, and values you have outlined create a competitive advantage for yourself in the job market? How would the leader of a business organization use these same elements to create competitive advantage in the industry?
How is the process of setting, measuring, and modifying your personal vision, mission, and goal plan different from that required by the leader of a small company? How does this process differ from that required by the leader of a large corporation?

Personal Vision and Mission Statement
Introduction
Personal vision and mission statements include statements of what one wants to accomplish personally and professionally. These statements can guide when determining what career to pursue, making essential life decisions, and planning how to achieve goals and realize life dreams. Identifying my vision and mission statement will help me determine what kind of person I would be in the future. Therefore, in this paper, I will demonstrate my mission and vision statements that will guide me in achieving my goals in my profession.
Personal Vision and Mission Statements.
My vision is to become a Human Resource Director. A Human Resource Director oversees employee relations and hiring in all departments of the company and guarantees that employees are managed per the organization’s standards. My vision statement is “to maintain and demonstrate a healthy working environment both mentally and physically”. I want to ensure that the employees I work for feel supported, valued and inspired. My mission statement is “to inspire and encourage those around me while implementing the right policies, strategies and services for employees to follow”. My vision and mission statement will help me guide my actions while accomplishing my life goals.
SMART Goals
Setting measurable, specific, time-bound, and relevant objectives effectively plans the long-term goals. Setting SMART goals keeps the ideas to action moving forward and also helps with timing and accountability. This also helps one to know what they are accomplishing and what they are set out to achieve. The SMART goals will guide me into becoming an effective Human Resource Director. The first goal is to receive my bachelor’s degree in business administration in one year. This will help me secure a job and gain experience. My second goal is to receive my Master’s degree in business administration, which will take about two years of completion. I will work as a Human Resource Assistant for about one year to gain more skills and experience in the field.
The next goal is to become an HR specialist and generalist, which will allow me to work on my employee relations and risk management. Working as a generalist for about three years will allow me to have expertise in more than one specialty in Human Resource, thus offering direction and sound advice to employees and the management. After gaining experience as an HR generalist, I will focus on specific areas of knowledge such as benefits design, human resources information systems and training for five years. By the end of ten years, I will become an HR Director as my last SMART goal. The various SMART goals will build my job satisfaction, experience, and skills and prioritize what is more important in my future as I strive to reach my end goal.
Personal Standards and Values
Personal standards are considered as the rules of behavior that shape and set an individual. This helps an individual in aligning the behavior with their values and goals. One of the most effective personal standards and principles entails morals. Morals are standards of wrong or right. Morals have enabled me to live cooperatively with others and determine what is more important in life. Mastery has also been effective in guiding my vision, mission and goal plan. Mastery is the standard that one will do what it takes to achieve their profession. Mastery has enabled me to realize my full potential, thus playing a great role in my career development.
Self-discipline has enabled me to concentrate on my career growth and duties requiring long periods to complete. Considerably, self-discipline is a habit that is learnt with repetition and practice. With time I have practiced it over and over again as a self-regulatory mechanism. The principle of professionalism has played a great role in guiding my acceptable and expected behavior. The principle of professionalism is a personal conducts standard by a professional within a business environment. Practicing professionalism has enabled me to communicate effectively and practice skills and competencies expected for my professional field.
Some significant personal values relevant to my mission and vision include courage, loyalty, positivity and integrity. I believe that personal values will play a great role in guiding my vision, mission and goals. For instance, I chose integrity since it is always important, to be honest with myself and the people I surround myself with. I believe positivity will enable me to encourage myself and others, thus building a positive working environment. Loyalty will help build trust in my professional journey since people are willing to work with a person they trust. Being courageous helps in taking steps and accomplish complex tasks that will build knowledge, skills and competency.
What I’ll Keep Doing to Reach My Vision and Achieve Your Mission
There are various things that I will keep doing to ensure that I reach my vision and achieve my vision. These include taking action every day, remaining focused, visualizing and reflecting and evaluating progress. The best way to learn and to progress is by doing and embracing failure as the stepping stone to success for all successful individuals and their long term goals. Visualizing how to reach the goals entails the process and working on getting there. For instance, trying to feel what it will be like once I reach the big accomplishments helps build motivation. This will create a lasting picture in my mind, which will sustain the motivation in the long run. I will need to channel my energy in a positive and focused direction to achieve my goals. Considerably, things change over time, which means that the road to my goals will have experience challenges. Therefore, I will keep modifying my plan and take every day step by step to ensure that I make the right changes to achieve my goals.
Monitoring and modifying My Plan to Measure Success in Achieving Outlined Goals
Writing down my goals will help me elucidate exactly what I want to achieve and inspire me to take necessary actions for success, such as modifying the plans. Considerably, monitoring the goals will be effective in determining whether my efforts have an intended impact. Sufficient data to determine success in my goals will include everyday actions to demonstrate success and value and uncover unexpected problems and benefits. I will measure the success of my goals by marking off each goal that I have completed. For instance, I will measure my goal using the number of days per month I spend on the goal. Staying true and focused on change and progress will guide me into what I have always wanted and to achieve my goals.
Competitive Advantage
Competitive advantage entails the capability to stay present and ahead of potential competitions. This is typically evaluated through the weaknesses and strengths while filling the gap to achieved desired outcomes. Competitive advantage focuses on why one will see success, how different one is and how much better they are compared to their competitors. When it comes to the job positions in the market, there will be a lot of people seeking the same position that I want. My competitive advantages will make me outstanding in the job market. I will differentiate myself by having a master degree in business administration since most people seeking the position stop at bachelor’s degree. Another competitive advantage is effort and focus. I believe that my focus and effort at work cannot be compared with other personnel in the HR positions.
After completing my goals, I will have undergone three different HR positions, which will build my skills, experience and knowledge on the job. My core competence will be a combination of my strengths and skills, thus offering me a competitive advantage in the job market. Competitive advantage is a certain aspect of a company that makes it outstanding from its competitors in the market. This company leader should use the competitive advantages as attributes that will enable the company to beat its competitor. A company may rely on differentiation to create unique products and services, thus gaining specific advantages due to the unique appeal to the consumers. Employing the right personnel and skills, and experiences can create a competitive advantage over competitors and help a company become successful.
Personal vs Corporate
The process of setting, measuring and modifying personal mission, vision and goal plan is not much different from that required by a leader in a small company. This is because the mission, vision, and goal plan focus on reaching the company’s and individuals desired future position. The vision, mission and goal plan offers a foundational identity of what one intends to serve, the capacity and how these elements will shape the future. The future of an individual or a small company depends on the setting, measuring, and monitoring of the vision, mission, and goal plan.
The process of setting, measuring and modifying the mission, vision and goal plan in a large company can encounter challenges in employee change adaptation. This is because the company is dealing with many employees that make it difficult to achieve the goals due to varying perceptions of the company’s mission and vision. Inability to track progress and lack of alignment also influence the process, thus creating obstacles in successfully implementing the vision, mission and goals.
