1. Write your  “leadership autobiography” in which you reflect on your past and present leadership experiences. Do not submit your life story, this only pertains to your leadership experiences.
2. Refer to Chapter 1, Introduction, page 11, Table 1.2 Six Bases of Power (French & Raven, 1962). Use each of the powers in your narrative by applying them to your leadership experiences.
3. Answer the following questions in your narrative:
   1. What people have had a significant impact on you?
   2. What leadership traits do they possess?
   3. Did these traits impact your leadership style and how?

YOU SHOULD SUBMIT

1. A word document (no more than 2 pages) containing your “leadership autobiography” following items 1 to 3, above.  You should format your paper according to APA 7th edition style. Use an appropriate title page, headings, in-text citations, paragraphs, references page, etc.  Not sure how? Review the information on APA style format in the Writing Resources area of the course (in the course menu on the left)
2. Check the due date in the course schedule. Late submissions may result in lost points.

GUIDELINES & TIPS

1. Check anything APA at Purdue Online Writing Lab.
2. APA is always double space, no more no less. Do not underline, use headings to separate ideas so your paper flows, and bold them.
3. The title page must have a header and page number. The Center of the title page has information based on APA 7th edition.
4. Don’t forget the References page. If you list a reference, it must also appear as an in-text citation and vice versa. Never use the words “Works Cited” as your heading on the References page. Use the word “References”.
5. Refrain from using the following phrases when writing most academic papers: “I believe” “In my opinion” “I think” “I”. The reason you use references is so you can write about what has been researched, this information has validity, your opinion does not.
6. Use headings to take the reader from one point to another. Remember the reader has no idea what each of the Powers is about.
7. If an assignment refers to a particular theory and states the author, you must cite the author in your paper and also list it on the References page.
8. Every paragraph should contain an in-text citation unless it is totally and originally your own words. If you do not include the in-text citation it could be considered plagiaris

Leadership Autobiography

Leadership does not have to be in the corporate world. It can be practiced and experienced in all sectors of life, including family. The first time I was in a leadership position was when I was working for a certain company and made the team leader. All my life, I had spent observing the different leadership styles of the people above me. Some I liked and others I despised. In my quest to guide others, I have had to experiment with the different bases of power. The person who has had the most impact on me and my style of leadership was my first employer. I saw the power of referent power. In referent power, the leader leads by example. The manager in that organization did what he expected from us, the employees, and the company was always smooth sailing because of his ability to lead by example (Nooradi et al., 2017). This specific employer had an impact on my leadership style as I learned that I should lead by example. This has helped me in so many ways as a leader.

I also had an experience with an employer who used coercive power. I worked in the company for three months and left because the manager did not listen to any of us and always thought their way was the best (Kovach, 2020). However, this experience influenced me. The displeasure I experienced in the three months I worked in the company helped me become a better leader. It helps me to date as I try to listen to the people I am leading, and I do not force them into doing anything they are not happy to do. I have learned to have conversations and discuss the best way of doing things with the people with me as in doing so, I involve them, which improves their job satisfaction.
