Covid-19 Global Perspective
Understanding the global perspective on social problems affecting our daily life plays a critical role. The three-part globe series, global leadership, recognizing responsibility as a global citizen, and being informed about the self in global context explores the link that exists between global perspective and creating awareness of the most pressing world problems. Tertiary students are future leaders who need the skills, experience, perspectives that will help the world make progress towards creating awareness and solving these obstacles. A study abroad expertise is vital to that endeavor (Yang et al., 2020).
The current problem that is posing a challenge to the world is COVID 19 pandemic. This disease has become a challenge that needs to be addressed. This is because it spreads rapidly, and outbreaks occur at an alarming rate. Currently, no vaccine is proven to cure or prevent the pandemic, although governments, World Health Organization, and other stakeholders are working in collaboration to come up with measures to curb the spread of the disease. According to the data revealed by countries that are affected by the disease, about 40 percent of victims will experience mild disease, 40 % moderate diseases like pneumonia, and about 4% will experience critical illness (Yang et al., 2020). Many countries globally are struggling to combat the pandemic, which is spreading like bush fire. Governments have warned citizens to adhere to World Health Organization rules and regulations, but all that have not produced fruits yet. Scientists globally are working day and night to search for the cure, but they are not however successful. The disease has posed a threat to every part of the economy.
The first sector that the pandemic has caused a challenge is the medical sector. There are inadequate medical facilities to care for a rising number of Coronavirus victims. The disease requires people to practice social distancing and avoid close contact with other people. In medical departments, this is hard to be achieved because of inadequate health facilities (Gates, 2020). Besides, these health workers who attend to victims are not spared because of some end up contracting the disease themselves and being forced to self-quarantine themselves. This has left many asking them that if medical officers are not spared with the diseases, who will now care for other patients?
The economy has suffered a big deal due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many companies have closed down, leaving many people jobless. Economy failure has also contributed a lot to hunger and suffering among many people globally. Countries are struggling to feed their population. Businesses have closed down. In some countries, total lockdowns have been adopted while some have restricted movements in some areas. Many people are suffering without knowing if and when the disease would be combated (Ranney et al., 2020). Great fear has overwhelmed the world with Schools, churches, and social gatherings closed down. This has brought the world to a standstill.Covid-19 has posed a threat to the world economy as a whole.
As much as the pandemic is still a threat to the world, there is always the need to address it more. People should still follow the steps that have been laid down by WHO to curb the spread of the disease. This has to begin with every individual putting these measures in practice. Secondly, all scientists around the world should work in collaboration (Kumar et al., 2020). They should be willing to share ideas and work extra hard to find the cure for this pandemic. Besides, there is a need for governments to help people who have been affected by the pandemic; for instance, those who have lost jobs, by supporting them financially. The government needs to support the medical sector by building more medical facilities, ensuring that health workers are well taken care of and availing enough testing kits. Finally, all countries of the world should collaborate in fighting this pandemic instead of playing blame games that are often witnessed on social media platforms.
