Career development processes entail exploration, self-knowledge, and decision-making that shape a career (Arulmani, Bakshi, Leong, and Watts, 2014). This demands getting into occupational options that suit one’s skills, personality, and interests. Career development boosts productivity and motivation through creating more realistic goals during career choice. The videos reveal that there are factors that influence career choice and development. These include extrinsic, intrinsic, and interpersonal factors that relate to career choices. Concerning the videos, having a network of people that offer support is healthy in career development. Personality, interests, different life roles, and cultural backgrounds influence future career choices and development (Vondracek, Lerner, and Schulenberg, 2019).
Having role models and positive experiences in specific careers tend to influence career development. For instance, the family and the local community can be among the factors that determine a future career choice. Positive experiences give proven success which builds self-esteem and the desire to continue in a particular career experience. Cultural issues always shape life values and personal expectations, thus influence career choice and development. Skills, talents, and abilities that fit a particular occupation tend to build positive career development.
Career interests lead to stable preferences for certain work environments and work activities. Additionally, interest is a driving influence for happiness and motivation in life, thus making it crucial in career development (Rounds and Su, 2014). My interest and the local community has greatly influenced my career development due to the need to give back to the community. I pursued my career to lead positive impacts to the community through protecting lives, facilitating fair practices, and keeping people safe. Relatively, my career interests offered a way of doing things in a way that I enjoy regularly. My personality plays an essential role in my career development since it gives me confidence and helps me in managing things well to be more adaptable in the career.
Interest Exercise, Personality Exercise, and Ideal Job Description influence in Career Development
The interest tests assess the skills, values, and skills that are useful in career development. Identifying career-related interests is an essential part of career planning. This is because one gets more satisfied with the career direction, which includes activities that one enjoys. The information collected on the interesting exercise facilitates career planning. Personality tests are the most reliable and validated psychological model to examine personality in career choice (Rossier, 2015). Personality tests enable one to understand their career aspirations, priorities, values, desires, and goals. This helps in defining personal goals and objectives more clearly to fit in a career direction that suits according to personality type.
Personality tests have helped in discovering what’s important to me in career progression. Through this, I have gained valuable insights into who I am and helped me in expressing positive traits that fit my career. An ideal job description entails competencies, responsibilities, experience, skills, and education to pursue a certain career. Considerably, a job description helps in the identification of abilities and skills that influence career development. For instance, the competency-driven job descriptions effectively help in developing a career development strategy. The ideal job description helps in measuring career performance against expectations, thus guiding on how to gain and develop skills that will facilitate career growth. Generally, interest exercise, personality exercise, and ideal job descriptions play an essential role in the career development process since they play both motivational and supportive parts in developing career roles. To function effectively, one needs to be clear about their potential development activities that help in the achievement of career goals.
