Mass incarceration

The policymakers and the public could have the stamina of addressing the issue of massive incarceration in the United States. First, the policymakers could work on introducing major reforms that will see court cases move faster to help in decongestion of the high number of persons who have not been sentenced. They could also enact policies that ensure that petty offenders do not get jail sentences, but could get other forms of punishments that will help them reform, without necessarily going to jail. On the other hand, the public is needed to ensure that the social reforms and that persons from early in their childhood are taught morals and how to live well within the society. Immorality begins within the grassroots and can hence be handled earlier before anyone grows in a rotten society which will lead to massive incarcerations.

It is, however, highly unlikely that the state, county, and city governments are willing to reduce the amount of money used to end bail without introducing other conditions. This is since this is the only way of ensuring that a suspect adheres to the court expectations, and that is not in a position to flee (Carter, 2019). However, given the high number of often behind bars due to financial obstacles such as the inability to pay the bill, there is a need for the governments to ensure that the bail monies are reduced, as a way of decongesting the incarceration facilities in the country.

The local leaders have the responsibility of redirecting public sending to smarter investments like community-based drug treatment and job training. With the rising cases of incarceration, they will likely have no options left but to have better investments to ensure that there is community-based drug treatment. According to Vlog Brothers (2014), the highest number of incarcerated persons are sentenced with matters related to drugs. This can be addressed by ensuring that there are more resources allocated into programs that will sensitize young adults on the need to avoid drug-related activities.
