What counseling implications for working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and intersex (LGBTQI) individuals were you made aware of in our reading?

ANSWER

Sexual diversity in Christianity is one of the most enduring and discussed topics. The controversy is in the question of what the Bible settles on the topic of same sex attraction. Terms like lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and intersex (LGBTQI) are too modern to have been included  in the Bible. However, books like Leviticus mention a prohibition against ‘man lying with another man’ which has also been argued because of the constant references of all human kind as ‘man’ in the entire Bible. The entire discussion is therefore left for religious practitioners to interpret.

In Christian counselling for couples or individuals who believe to be of either of the LQBTQI groupings present an opportunity to prove the Biblical love of God that has no limits or boundaries. Jesus summarized all the commandments to love and did not bother to expound on what love was acceptable and which was not. This is to mean that provided love exists then sexual orientation becomes secondary. From the reading, I understood that faith has potential inference to write and wrong on the basis of science. This is to say that provided a sexual relationship does not result in the health compromise of the offspring, then it is evaluated on the values of upheld within a society. This means the Bible gives liberty to human kind to decide what is allowed and what is not allowed. Religion can accept the LGBTQI group in church and other avenues of worship from their own analysis. God has left that obligation on human beings just as he left the obligation to multiply or take care of his creation to man.
