3. In the first paragraph of your discussion post explain which textbook article on recycling represents your position and which elements of your own personal context have influenced your choice. In other words, identify the important dimensions in forming your own opinion on how far to go in recycling.
4. In the second paragraph decide which textbook article represents the position opposite of yours and why.
5. In the third paragraph describe your “supporter” and then your “opponent” selecting them from the “imaginary friends” (Marla, Juan, and so on) in the Power Point presentation. To do so, review the PowerPoint presentation paying close attention to the descriptions of “imaginary friends.” Infer which of the five “friends” would likely side with you and which would oppose you. As always explain how you came up with your inferences – which details in the personal context of the “friend” seemed most important and why.
There are no wrong answers; the purpose of the assignment is to show that you understand how personal context might influence opinions.
Note: paragraphs do not need to be long – 3-5 sentences will suffice
ANSWER
The debate of an Issue
The article by Jenny Luna on “We are so forked” has focused on my position when it comes to recycling. Ideally, Jenny (2017) focuses on the use of recycled cutlery rather than the tossed utensils each year. This article makes a difference since disposable cutlery has greatly endangered wildlife. Plastic utensils have been ranked among the major environmental threats which have contributed to a larger problem. Encouraging consumers to bring their cutlery would play a great role in reducing the amount of waste since the restaurant staff includes plastic utensils in every order (Jenny, 2017). The major dimensions of personal context that have influenced in forming my opinion about recycling include my state of mind and values. With regards to recycling behavior, the value of the environment has influenced my behaviors and attitude towards waste and recycling. Additionally, the state of knowledge highly influences the behaviors of a person.
The article “reign of recycling” has been of the most interesting articles that have disapproved the evidence that people have given on the idea of recycling plastics in the United States (John, 2015). The article has opposed my position on the importance of recycling to reduce the amount of waste and landfills. For instance, the article states that the future of recycling is even looking worse and might be more problematic than before. The article argues that people have been convinced by the environmental protection agencies that recycling is significant since it lowers carbon emissions. However, they believe that the zero waste objective is inapplicable.
Juan would greatly support my opinion on recycling due to her background. He owns a small but successful chain of a local restaurant which makes him support the idea of recycling cutlery to reduce the cost of sales as well as waste. Lou would oppose my opinion due to her beliefs and attitude towards life. Lou worries less about the future which makes it evident that recycling is not a great issue to him.
