Developing Training Protocols
Cross-cultural intelligence is the ability of a person to decrypt and understand the values and beliefs of other people in a new environment using situated knowledge structures. Cultural sensitivity is the recognition and awareness of cultural differences and the ability to create the behavioral norms in different cultures and be open to the experiences found in different cultures (Kwantes & Glazer, 2017). Businesses are going global at a high rate, and therefore is important that managers acquire cross-cultural communication interaction and communication. An example of such a position is a company that has gone global and requires a manager to oversee its operations in Africa. The employees in the new company have a mixture of people from different cultures, and therefore as the manager overseeing the operations, it is crucial to understand cross-cultural communication to ensure that the operations are running smoothly.
For this position to be successful cultural/diversity training is necessary. Before partaking in the task in Africa, the manager should be trained on diverse cultures and their needs. The manager will be dealing with customers of different cultures, and therefore, cultural tolerance and quickly reading the environment will help the company remain successful. Metacognition is the awareness of one’s thought process, which is essential for a person who is working in a new cultural ground (Van der Horst & Albertyn, 2018). The workplace is diverse, and therefore, the manager should be aware of the things or stereotypes they had about the different cultures and be careful not to voice them to ensure cultural tolerance.
The people employed within the international company are of diverse cultures and religions. The first issue that should be addressed to ensure that there are no issues emerging is the issue of ay. Suppose a particular group of people receives more pay for the same work done by other members of the organization. In that case, this is going to be described as discrimination against other cultures. It is also essential to respect the different holidays and cultures of different people in the organization. Treating some holidays as more important than others is discrimination. Everybody in the organization should have the right to mark their different cultural holidays without fear of being criticized or discriminated against. It is also important for the manager to understand that there might be language barrier issues and show the effort to try and learn the common language. This will help the manager mostly to deal with the customers.
To have increased success in the international market, I believe I should increase my jargon. I need to learn a few different languages to ensure I am comfortable working in many places in the world. People are more comfortable with people who can speak their language, and therefore learning more languages could help increase my cross-cultural intelligence.
