Hello, there is indeed a significant difference between academic research and applied research. While academic research deals with theory regarding quantitative data to analyze phenomena, applied research depends on the interpretation of actual events on the ground (Su-Chun, W. A. N. 2017). Choosing which research should be prioritized over the other would depend on the expected general outcome of the research. Using applied research confines a researcher to the specific setting, and any recommendations cannot be used outside it. Applied research, however, while basing its research in reality, and tends to be more practical than theoretical (Makhutov & Gadenin, 2018). This is because the research ideally lives among the research setting, getting first-hand information not only through interviews from locals but also experiencing first-hand reality. On the other hand, academic research is more theoretical, using evidence collected from different settings in both qualitative and quantitative forms. However, the two research methods correlate for better research conclusions.

Hello, I’m afraid I disagree with your statement that Academic research focus tends to be more conceptual and theoretically focused to add to a larger body of knowledge. While the first part may be true, terming academic research as theoretical is not. Academic research is fundamentally based on actual statistics and other quantitative data (Politzer-Ahles et al., 2020). Since academic research is scholarly, a lot of emphasis is put on the availability of actual figures and research results as proof of any academic research or statement. Using factual statistics helps generate better academic research, and as you stated, is helpful and used as a contributing material/research aid to a larger body of knowledge. In addition, applied research embodies theories based on actual experiences. I would also disagree with your statement that Independent thinking can serve as an unbiased approach to new discoveries and knowledge. Human beings are fundamentally and subconsciously biased and are therefore more prone to conduct bias research and generate bias conclusions (Bertoline, 2017).
